Commercial Description:
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Can. Pours a black with small tan head. Faint chocolate malts in the aroma, but really not much there. Flavor is malty with watery coffee and chocolate. Fairly smooth, slight bitterness in the finish. Pretty boring, and too watered down.

Does little to transcend it’s macrobrew pedigree--bland, thin, and not very interesting. It’s verymuch like a traditional lager but with a bit more malt and a suggestion of body.

Wow this is the best Asian beer I’ve ever had. Aroma of caramel, roasted nuts, and hay. Poured a deep dark brown/black color with decent head. This tasted pretty good with an initial taste of dark chocolate & coffee. Overall this is the best Asian beer (that I know of) you can get locally. Worth the money, try it and enjoy!

Pours a brown color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, roast, and a hint of coffee. Flavor is coffee, roast, caramel, and a bitter earthy finish.

Bottle in a Japanese-alike restaurant. Pours black and carbonated with no head, looks exactly like a glass of cola! Drinks fairly thick, sweet and malty, with a dark bitter finish. Fairly unusual for an asian beer, not entirely sure what I make of it.

Nothing entirely unique here, but it is a passable dark beer. The nose is a little weak, but the taste and mouthfeel are both satisfactory.

This was fantastic. I’ve been really let down by most of the Asian beers I’ve had and this one made up for it totally. Like a mix between Young’s Double Chocolate and Xingu.

From a bottle poured dark brown with a fair amount of head. Nice malty sweet flavor with a quick finish.
