Commercial Description:
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Lacing is Grade A ... smooth down the throat but a bit to cultured ... not the most flawless blackers but a good beginner .... " he’s mental for those snausages" ... drinkable but quite neutral...

Available from Waitrose in the UK. Ok. Not so black. Smooth, one dimensional flavour, that prejects itself in a very narrow range. You see black and you naturally think deep, rich and complex, not this. Smooth and to the point.

Nose of roasted malts and cereal. Pours a black beer with a cream head. Body is thin. Taste is of roasted malts and not much else. Quite flat in fact. I thought it might be better.

Bottled. Pours a clear, dark brown with a tan head. Creamy flavor with hints of unsweetened chocolate.

Bottle from Waitrose. A fairly bland schwarzbier, roasted malt, a touch metallic and a bit of smoke. I didn’t enjoy it.

Best Asian beer I’ve had yet, which isn’t saying much. Black color, very toasty-roasty sort of flavor. Fairly safe tasting but nothing special.
