Commercial Description:
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Bottle

Pours a nice black with a lovely cream colored head. Aroma is chocolate and a tinge of roasted malt. Flavor follows suit with a slightly coppery aftertaste that keeps this from being a great beer. Palate is watery. Not bad, but the aftertaste ruins it.

This schwarzbier pours a deep brown color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. Aroma is slightly coffee, roasted malt with a touch of cola. A medium to light bodied schwarzbier. Malts are roasty and slightly cola-ish. It’s a touch thin and watery, which helps accentuate the cola like flavors. The lively carbonation helps with that as well. Very drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle from "Beers of Europe" nr Kings Lynn in Norfolk, England. Very dark redish brown in colour. Thick bubbly head to begin with, which dwindles after a while. Not bad, but not much to it for a 5%er, a bit on the thin side. Slightly dry in the after-taste. Not bad, if I was stuck in Japan with no Real Ale I’d be happy to drink a few of these.

Deep purple color, almost black with a small light tan head. Aroma is sweet with a hint of cola. Flavor starts sweet followed by a light black coffee bitterness and a touch of cola with a quick dry finish. Thin bodied with a watery texture and lively carbonation.
