COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Bottle, 334ml. A black colour with a large brown head. Aroma of sweet malt, some treacle. Flavour is malty with some chocolate, a little hop coming through. Rice? A sweet treacle finish. Moderate to high carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours deep brown with a lighty brown foam, settles fast. Roasted malt, pear and light floral hops in the aroma, taste is initially roasted malt, light coffee and dried fruit and then quite fast a dry finish. Medium body, low to medium carbo. Stylistically true.

Flaska från @thaalcoholic, tack! Mörkt rödsvart vätska med lågt ljusbrunt skum som lägger sig fort. Söt lätt metalliskt doft. Smakar farinsocker å rostad malt. En bra japan

17-Apr-14 (330-ml bottle: $1.69 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA)
This beer is dark brown in color and some translucence at the edge, and it’s capped by half an inch of tan head that settles to a ring. The nose is malty and lightly roasty, with notes of cola, well-toasted bread, and a hint of sweet caramel. On the palate, the malt is lightly roasty and lightly sweet, with obvious flavors of medium-dark toast and cola, plus a hint of smokiness. There’s not enough roastiness to create any noticeable bitterness though, so this is pretty soft, easy, and smooth to drink. Weight is medium-minus, carbonation is medium, and the mouthfeel is reasonably dry. Overall, this is a light, easy drinking dark lager, but tasty enough to quaff mindlessly.

Near black, fine beige head. Roasty nose, a little red fruit and some toasted malt, verging on a Stout, but more watery. Very nice dunkel.
