COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Bottle. Caramel aroma, pours very dark with thin head and taste is caramel with light biterness. An easy to drink beer justifying the strength with a slight creamy finish.

Nice harmless black lager. Bit of roasted malt. Bit of lager malt. Didn’t taste of 5%.

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black with steady bubbles and a proportionate head. The nose has hazelnuts and treacle, then some liquorice. The taste has much more liquorice, a creamy note then a bit of smoke. The palate has a medium body, is medium thick in texture and there is quite a clean finish. Overall, nice black lager.

Pours deep mahogany with a large tan head. Smells sweet, like toffee. Tastes sweet with some mild roasted bitterness. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Asahi Black finishes with a hint of chocolate.

Dark brown with a small tan head. Smells like molasses with a bit of smoke. Taste like brown sugar and a little coffee. This is a bit too sweet for me and I find it unbalanced. Does not fit my palate, but it is not a bad brew.

Pours black. Thin head. Nice aroma, roasted malt and caramel. Tastes like soy sauce. Not very good. Actually pretty offensive.

Bottle at Cole’s. Maudite glass. Pours clear brown, with a tawny hue. 1-finger pale tan head, weak lacing. Nose is soy, mushroom, salt. Flavours of soy, mushroom, tart black fruit, some coffee, some Worcestershire, graphite and plums. Identifiable as a Japanese beer, but interesting....

Slightly sweet brew with hints of spice and malt. Lighter than I expected.

Not so much aroma, Dark brown color, almost no head at all, medium carbonation and a mild roasted flavor. Kind of disappointing beer.
