COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Very dark beer with a strong head and a burn’t slightly aniseed and banana aroma. The flavour is mild and sweet with hints of banana. Overall not a bad beer but could have been a lot better.

very nice Japanese Black. Reminded me of an Irish beer but there was something missing; tasted one demensional. An excellent choice if you only have Japanese beers on the menu.

I had this on the Stockholm Beer Festival. A plecent experience. This one is dark amber in color and has a malty aroma. The taste has hints of coffee.

Bottled, Stockholm Beer Festival. Dark amber. Light roasty malty, toffee flavour, hints of butteriness. Somewhat fruity. An average schwarzbier, consumed by Tokyo biznizmen?

Dark amber. Aroma is malty and almost sugary sweet. Malty and quite mild flavor. Ok but nothing special.

Dark brown beer with a red gleam and a nice tan head. Sweet malt, brown sugar and coffee aroma. Roasted malt flavor. Fruit, citrus and slight coffee notes. Very thin in the finish. Still a nice and easy beer.

Bottle. Not too bad for an Asian beer. Dark, opaque, slightly mahogany pour. Grapes, raisin, toffee in the flavor; dry throughout. A little bit resinous; nice dark malts. This will prolly be a staple for me if I move to Japan...

Sweet malt and brown sugar aroma, deep auburn, pours a large toffee head, some lace. Sweet malt flavour, with caramel and treacle too. Thin bodied, slightly bitter. Pleasant offering.

Bottle pours black with little head...smells nutty and malty...tastes much the same...I like this style of beer, it is just quite unfortunate that they all kind of taste the same...the black beer category is kind of a black hole for uniqueness (I am so funny sometimes...I guess not now though...)

In the bottle. Had this in Yokohama where you needed to get a bank loan to pay for your beer. Nice dark color, but not completely black. Strong adjunct flavors are still pronounced, as this is a far cry from the German schwartzbiers. Better than the light japanese beers, but what isn’t?
