COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

334 ml, bottled. Pours black with a thin, ringed beige head. Aroma: Roasted malt, vanilla. Taste: Medium+ sweet, some bitterness. Woody flavours, roasted grain, rice. Some maize, too. Complex cereal flavours. Palate: Quite light body, thin mouth feel. Not bad. The mild flavours has some deepness. Not bad.

a better than expected predecessor to sushi. pours like a sam adams black lager. similar aroma too. a little thin and light on the palate, but the flavor is a nice, rich, malty brew. overall...good with food. kinda average/boring on it’s own, but the best Japanese beer i’ve had."

Bottle from Queens Plaza Beer & Wine 071014. Black with a big creamy tan head. Smoke like aroma is okay and the thin bodied beer has some good flavours.

tania_nexust (230) - Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 5, 2014
Bottle from Japan Centre. Hours a rich black. Not much aroma and body is a little thin but there are pleasant roasty tastes and as it’s not too heavy it actually pairs well with Japanese/Asian food.

Tranquillity (1451) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 4, 2014
A black lager, but it’s surprisingly ale-like. Black, slightly smoking aroma and the taste is quite the same. Great thick plate!

A very dark brown, slightly red beer with a medium, and beige head. Thenose is malty, bread, slightly roasted, also sweet berries. Taste has bread, some roastiness, tense. Medium bodied, quite harsh palate. Not very convincing beer, quite tasteless and tense.

Beachmaster (213) - Oklahoma, USA - SEP 27, 2014
Bottle into a pint glass. Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Moderate tan head which quickly fades into a disc on the surface. No appreciable lacing. Nose is dark malt. Taste is faint amount of dark malt. Creamy mouth feel, with a long finish that leaves a somewhat odd, slightly bitter aftertaste. Not much here.
