Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Bottle: Clear, deep brown, thick head and lace. Cold, closed, malty and roasted. Dry, not sour and medium to medium low bitterness. Mid weight and medium length. Caramel and roasted flavors. Surprising fresh.

Pours a clear dark brown with a big brown head that dissipates quickly into nothing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and some toast. Taste is roasted malts, cocoa and then goes to a super dry finish. Crisp and clean on the finish but feels a bit too light. Easy to drink though.

Mild cocoa aroma. Moka coffee, nut, roasted grain, smoky finish. Surprisingly fine for an Asahi, good attempt at a dunkel, not so sweet and with some decent flavors

Nose: I can barely bring myself to say it, but it smells of soy. Hack, but true. Taste is soy, slight toasted malt, a little fruit. The mouth feel is velvet. A passable beer, but note memorable.

Forms a easy head & keeps a fine line of it for the duration of the glass. Medium roastiness, so sweetness & a quick dash if treacle. But on the dilute side. Thinnish& easy drinking. Reminiscent of Labour Velvet Cream Porter without the shrilling sweet zing.

Pours with a pillowly light brown head that lasts for several minutes. The appearance is very good and the lacing is also very good. The beer has roasted nut chocolate flavors with a sweet nutty finish. There is minimal bitterness and a nice malty balance that is not overly sweet. As the label says, it is smooth, rich and silky! This is a very tasty Japanese beer.

Bottle from wegmans. Pours reddish brown with a small off white head. The aroma is light sweet, caramel, grape. The taste is light roast, sweet fruity something. Not bad.
