Commercial Description:
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Ah ynes the brown trumpet, quitye surprosing. great like a ale or stout and smelling nicely of ham, WHAT A PINT, its definet joose and wine of crab cakes. complictaed eating a wee say of gateau.

Bottle. Pretty much sweet brown sugary sort of stuff. There is some light toastyness and roasted malt. Pretty smooth and all the rest of it (drinkable etc) but its just a little too thin and sweet or something. An average schwarz.

Bottled 330ml, pasteurised at Wagamama, Oxford. V Dark Brown with ruby hue, malty head. Smooth sweetish black lager, some deep roasted notes, but most covered by the sweet flavour. A little fruitiness, reasonable.

Clear deep reddish colour with an off white head. Malty, fruity and light roasted aroma. Caramel and grainy sweet flavor with a light roasted and dark fruity note.

Can, shared by Gr0ve. Pours a clear ruby body, with a huge, creamy beige head. Quite weak on the aroma, mostly roasted, with some butterscotch. Rather weak flavor too, roasted, with caramel and notes of butterscotch. Rather thin in the mouth, even for a schwarzbier, but not watery. A boring beer I think, but easy to drink. (080216)

Bottle: Dark black, off white head, nice lacing. Nose is lightly sweet, some metal and roast, light fruit and juice. The falvor is thin, some astringent roast and metallic hop bitterness. A bit of coffee and chocolate, the finish is light and thin, decent schwarz.

Bottle. Almost black beer with nice off white head. This soon disappears however. The aroma has some roasty notes but also a bit of metal. The taste is also a bit roasty, some caramel but it’s all a bit thin and metallic.

Black in colour. Aromas are coffee, sour blackberry and (almosr) aniseed. Flavours are earthy and thin with a roast character. Not very malty, devoid of taste. Rice and maize don’t help I suspect.
