COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Very good dark beer even in cans. Probably the best dark one among the beer in cans.

it has a nice nose, smooth approach to the throat and a fluid, charming manner going down. Although hard to find at times, it is well worth the search.

What a mind f--k. You so totally expect stout when you see it. As black as any stout. This, Xingu (from Brazil), and Sapporo Black really freak me out. Schwarzbier? It simply does not compute in my stout-primed brain. If I were expecting a thicker richer version of Negro Modelo, I would have enjoyed this more.

I have a really difficult time explaining this thing. It’s like the bastard child of the darkest of stouts and Bud Ice... in a good way. It has all the flavor you would ever want out of a black beer combined with the smoothness and drinkability of your average lager. Even if you don’t like it, you’ll admit it’s one of the more interesting beers you have ever had.

Ah ynes the brown trumpet, quitye surprosing. great like a ale or stout and smelling nicely of ham, WHAT A PINT, its definet joose and wine of crab cakes. complictaed eating a wee say of gateau.

Pours deep mahogany with a large tan head. Smells sweet, like toffee. Tastes sweet with some mild roasted bitterness. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Asahi Black finishes with a hint of chocolate.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2005 I found this to be a refreshing Japanese Black on par with Sapporo Black. Head a tad foamy. Aroma slightly more pungent than flavor. Not a very lively tasting beer, but nice and relaxing.

Nice looking black beer with a good sized tan head. Aroma has sweet roasted malts and some fruit. Taste is caramel, malt, perhaps some chocolate. Smooth medium mouthfeel. Very interesting, nice and drinkable beer.

Bottled and served with sushi and great company! Nice aroma and solid flavor cleaner than a chocolate flavor. Very pleasant and certainly one that I will get again. Even with the strong flavors it was smooth and paired well with the light flavors of the sashimi.
