<i>Can @ A Taste of Japan, Markham, ON</i>: Didn’t even know such a thing existed when I saw it on the menu tonight, and at almost half the price of Sapporo why does anyone bother with the corn water? The waiter poured it for me - directly into the centre - leaving 2/3 head that took some time to go away. The aroma is basic roasted caramel malt and some tin, presumably from the can. Flavour is somewhat basic for the style, nothing at all spectactular. You’re looking at very light caramel roasted malt, some sweet cane sugary element, and no real hops to be found. Light years better than Super Dry, but not my favourite schwarz.

Oct 8, 2008 EBF2008. It’s a red-brown beer with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of candy sugar, sweetness, malt and light licorice. The flavour has sweetness and notes of candy sugar, light sweet coffee, sweet licorice and caramel. The sweetness is a bit too strong IMO.

Oct 1, 2008 Definitely smooth. Aroma is identical to Guinness stout. Not bitter, and only slightly sweet. A little roasted malt flavor. Could have a stronger flavor.

Sep 29, 2008 (Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear warm orangey brown with an off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and raisins. Medium-bodied with roasted malts, dried fruit and perhaps also overripe fruit. Dry and somewhat sulphurous finish. 140908

Sep 27, 2008 (Bottle) Aroma of caramel and slightly roasted malt. Mildly sweet, and mildly bitter. Only very weakly hopped. Carbonation blends well with the overall character of the beer: mild but slightly coarse. Overall, not terribly interesting.

Sep 27, 2008 Pours a deep black/brown with a tan head. Nice appetizing aromas of caramel, cocoa, and dark bread. Light-medium mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Wounderful chocolaty malt taste gives way to sweet doughy finish with hints of dark fruit and coffee flavored toffee. Although the taste is a somewhat light interpretation for a schwarzbier, it is refreshing a easy to drink making it an excellent session beer.
