COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle & can: Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

Bottled, Stockholm Beer Festival. Dark amber. Light roasty malty, toffee flavour, hints of butteriness. Somewhat fruity. An average schwarzbier, consumed by Tokyo biznizmen?

Bottle. Imported from Japan unlike the nasty UK-brewed Asahi Dry, this black lager is very much nicer. Not strong tasting, but with a mild malty flavour that automatically raises it above most lagers.

reebtogi (2159) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 4, 2012
330ml bottle pours almost black in color with a finger of off-white head that settles down to almost no lacing. Aroma is light roasted malts and coffee with hints of chocolate and earthy notes. Taste is roasted malt and coffee bitterness with a chocolately malt sweetness and some earthy hop notes. Light to medium body with light carbonation. Quite a tasty dark lager for such a large brewery.

Have to agree with Cametron. It’s a schwarzbier all the way. All the typical traits. Solid effort tho. Got that clean crisp burnt taste. Dark malts and a clean finish. Very nice stuff from Asahi.

Bottle. Dark brown with an off-white head. Caramel, ripe fruit, chocolate with a light acidity. Most definitly a schwarzbier and not a dunkel as is labelled here. Pretty nice.

Caytinator (100) - Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - MAR 12, 2012
Bottle at restaurant. Dark, dark amber color. Taste is heavily malty--lightly bitter and medium sweet. Palate is medium, I think. Nice take on a dunkel.

Can: Poured a dark brown black with a tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Taste is rich caramel malt and roasted, nice hops to balance.

Aroma is malty and dark, taste is of dishwater and coffee. Not good, even though I don’t like this style.
