2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
500 ml can bought at 7-Eleven in Metropolis Plaza, Sheung Shui.
Light golden honey colour; Three-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which faeds in 40 seconds; Small sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation;
Light aroma of malt, with very thin floral, light syrup, white bread, light lemon and grass; Close to light sweet taste of malt, with strong grains, bread, light biscuits, light lemon and very light grass;Close to light body. Dry, thin and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is a thinned Premium Lager. Maltyness is pretty good and notably bready. Initially grainy from the barley adjunct, minimal sweetness, lemony, dry and no off-taste. The 6% booze is very well hidden. This is pretty good!... Hoppiness is light lemon and light grass in nose and taste. Background low-fi bitterness for an abrupt semi-finish; Dry after taste. Very easy and quite crisp to mouth.
Comments: As much as I love to bash big boys like Asahi, I have to admit they acquit themselves pretty well with this one: a pretty okay brew that went beyond Pale Lager and without the typical bad booze and sweetness of Strong Pale. A thin-body Premium Lager that’s very easy to go down with no foul smell or off-taste whatsoever. Another rare bright spot from an otherwise stark world of Happoshu. Worth a try!

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Dry straw aroma. Sweet malt, biscuit, mild plum, sweet alcohol finish. Not the worst Asahi brew, quite drinkable apart from the strong aftertaste.

Id love to know what constitutes clear? Perhaps it means the head dissipates quickly...which it does. Overall tho not a bad beer. A bit watery and a slight cardboard taste with light corn and white bread. But for me the over-riding taste was liquorice. It isn’t too gassy however and goes down well. Trouble is at 6% you might feel it in the morning.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Can from supermarket. Light JR toilet nose (maybe just at the point before before entering on a busy weekend night), some cardboard, and small fumes. Medium pale straw, no head. Overripe pineapple and cabbage juice / mid holds the course and adds some harshness / finish is ... something somewhat solid... but uninteresting. Medium body. More "there" than in the regular version of Clear Asahi -- but even though both are not quite bad, neither impresses in any way.
