Cheap tin from a drugstore in Yonago. Straw gold with a dying fizz of head. Grass and glue aroma with some faint herbal presence, Madeira cake and pale toastiness. Glycerol dripped on paper flavour, nibble of almond. Breadstick? Struggling for positives. Although it is clear, admittedly.

Can from a Lawson store. Pale golden colour with a white head. Mild malt aroma. Very weak flavour that with some imagination can be considered malt. A meh beer.

The recipe has been changed!! That’s official!! So...so sad! When first released this low malt beer was an instant success story NO JOKE! Great hop bite, wet and clean. It has now joined the ranks of wet cardboard and ...."Who cares??" Just pathetic.....obviously an attempt to rival Kirin’s long selling Nodogoshi It is a total let down. Bland as water. It’s a corporate mess like Yahoo. Move along now....nothing to enjoy at all.

Actually tastes a little like beer. Unfortunately it isn’t much of anything. Thin, low carbonation, malty, pea like amino taste with an abrupt finish. Actually reasonably drinkable in a crushing beers for the sake of drinking kind of way.

December 21st, 2010 - Hot on the heels of my last happoshu review comes a hap offering from Asahi - the Asahi Clear. One thing you can’t fault Japan’s large breweries for is tricking their consumers. All the happoshu beers look different. As an example, the Asahi Clear does not sound like a delicious, full bodied beer, but a wan, dehydrated beer, alive but for the gracious assistance of life support and a lot of prayer. And really, that’s what these semi-beers taste like when compared to the Belgian and American brews common to my home country. The Clear Asahi is just about the same as others in its class - a lighter palate than pale lagers, a slightly sweet vegetable touch, but a poor substitute for even the standard silver bullet Asahi pale lagers.

Can (rated Apr 2008). Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, husks), trace hops (herbs), with a note of DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, husky, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.

Follows a similar course to Asahi’s other pale lagers but seems to be heavily filtered to get rid of any ’beer’ taste. Strictly for ticking records only.

Poured about as pale yellow as i’ve seen, crystal clear. Very tiny head. Little to no aroma, smells like tap water. Taste was very refreshing, fairly watery, but very clean flavors, very little sweetness, slightly floral, very good for what it is. good summer session beer.
