COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"The secret behind the unique qualities of our happo-shu lies in two industry firsts: barley extract and Deep Sea Water. In the past, the biggest problem with brewing happo-shu was the difficulty of bringing a low-malt to healthy fermentation without the high levels of nutrients and minerals needed for yeast. By using two new ingredients, extract of barley and Deep Sea Water, we succeeded in creating a happo-shu without the peculiar smell and uneven taste caused by unhealthy yeast fermentation. In fact, we think Asahi Honnama has the crispest, clearest taste of any happo-shu ever created. At the same time, by fermenting with the rich taste of wheat from barley extract, we have eliminated the watery taste of other happo-shu to create a rich flavor experience."

Clear golden yellow color. White foamy head. Thin, weak, sour corn aroma with almost no trace of malt. Similarly thin flavors of corn, rice. Very watery. Not so good.

Officially, according to Japanese law, this is not real beer due to the low amount of malt in it. Its a "happushu". Thin straw colour. The aroma ´has an uncomfortable metallic touch mixed with some malty-thing. Flavour is waterish, bit sour and quite unpleasent. Nasty but cheap compared to the real beers.

Canned, pours a very thin extremely pale yellow. Metallic taste at first, fades into a urine flavored seltzer water at the end. To be avoided at all costs. A more reasonable choice would be anti-freeze.

A clear golden color with white head. Starchy smell, sweet but tinny tasting. Not one I’d seek out but fair enough to wash wasabi out of your mouth. Did a side by side of this vs. Sapporo’s "Winter Tale", this was better but not by much

Canned: Pours a pale golden body, with frotht head. Has strong skunky smell. Watery taste with slight pear/apple flavour. Watery palate leaving a bitter/sour afterfeel in back of throat.

Canned- Pale yellow body, frothy bleached head. Skunk is strong in this one, some chemical aromas with a mild touch of hops. Watery, sour apples is what taste I am getting here. Watery mouthfeel, sour chemical apple aftertaste. Slight burn in throat. Strange. Different, but not in a good way.

Canned. Pale golden with brief head. Rice aroma with strong notes of petrol. Thin and sweetish, but reasonably clean. Herbal finish without bitterness.
