COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"The secret behind the unique qualities of our happo-shu lies in two industry firsts: barley extract and Deep Sea Water. In the past, the biggest problem with brewing happo-shu was the difficulty of bringing a low-malt to healthy fermentation without the high levels of nutrients and minerals needed for yeast. By using two new ingredients, extract of barley and Deep Sea Water, we succeeded in creating a happo-shu without the peculiar smell and uneven taste caused by unhealthy yeast fermentation. In fact, we think Asahi Honnama has the crispest, clearest taste of any happo-shu ever created. At the same time, by fermenting with the rich taste of wheat from barley extract, we have eliminated the watery taste of other happo-shu to create a rich flavor experience."

Can thanks to EinWeizenBitte. Pours a clear fizzy yellow color with a decently lasting white head. The aroma is really grainy, lots of adjunk. Really ricey, not appealing. The flavor is not great, with sweet pale malt, slight unpleasant hop bitterness, and ricey adjunk. Not good. Thin and light on the mouthfeel with high carbonation. Maybe a bit cleaner than your average BMC. Not a big fan of this happoshu really, but I appreciate the tick.

Can thanks to EinWeizenbitte. Shared by drabmuh. Served in a Four Peaks Kiltlifter pint glass. My second Happoshu! Pours a straw color with a slight white head. There is a tiny bit of lacing that clings to the side of the glass as it goes down. The nose is some slight grain, husk, and a bit of rice. The taste is loads of rice along with some cooked vegetables. The mouthfeel is light with decent carbonation. This is pretty gross and near undrinkable. I might say that this style may be worse than American Light Lager if the two I’ve had are at all representative of the style. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 11-30-2010

Thanks to Alex via someone for this style tick. Alex keeps feeding the beast...A sexy can served in my Darkness glass...Pours a super clear medium gold with about three fingers of head. The head just looks weak, watery and whispy but it actually hangs for a bit and has surprisingly full lacing...A medium skunk aroma, rice, alcohol. At first its pretty offensive but settles down...The taste is light, a little grain, almost no flavor. Like drinking a glass of water that had a drop of beer dumped in as flavoring. It doesn’t taste bad or offend me like a bad macro...The feel is really bad, worse than water...Easy to drink, like a glass of water. But if I wanted something that light I’d just drink a glass of water...

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2011 350ml can from vending machine at Tokyo, 250Y. Somewhat better of his little sister "aqua blue", this is not beer exactly, this is happoshu. i think malt content is 50%, while blue version is 25%. Looks more yellow, nicer head and more balanced taste but still extremely watery.

Canned. Clear, gold colour. Medium white, foamy head that dissovled with slight lacing. Small bubbly carbonation. Very light aroma with little hops. Crisp clean flavour that was very light: watery. Quick finish with little bitterness.

Can: Pale gold color, thin head and lacing. Nose is slightly tinny with something I wouldn’t call malt, but some might. It’s a thin and flavorless brew, some very light hop notes in the finish, but a domination of happoshu all through it. God, Happoshus are aweful, why am I doing this to myself?

Pours clear golden with a large, foamy white head. Aroma was swet malt. Thin, bubbly mouth. Taste is metallic at first, then fading into a very light malt. Crisp, and refreshing, but completely lacking in the taste arena. Meh.

Clear golden yellow color. White foamy head. Thin, weak, sour corn aroma with almost no trace of malt. Similarly thin flavors of corn, rice. Very watery. Not so good.

Officially, according to Japanese law, this is not real beer due to the low amount of malt in it. Its a "happushu". Thin straw colour. The aroma ´has an uncomfortable metallic touch mixed with some malty-thing. Flavour is waterish, bit sour and quite unpleasent. Nasty but cheap compared to the real beers.
