2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Wow this really is just Asahi Super Dry with just a handful of chocolate malt thrown in to the mix. The flavor is not bad, there is just very little flavor present. Definitely the lightest "dark" beer I have ever had.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
350 ml can bought at YATA in Grand Century Place, Mong Kok.
Clear deep blackish brown colour; Less than one-quarter finger head and residual soapy beige foam which fades in 10 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing and minimal carbonation; Slightly fragrant aroma of roasted malt, with light caramel, light black coffee, toffee, Cola, light sugar and thin grass; Mid to light sweet taste of thin roasted malt, with nuts, strong rice, light toffee, black coffee, Cola, very light lemon, bitter hops and strawy grass; Close to light body. Thin but slick palate; Mouth feel is seriously rice-thinned black Lager - actually good maltyness in a rather slick and not so thin body, strongly roasted and nutty. Loads of rice but quite smooth throughout, not the raw grainy stuff from those cheapo macro Pales. Notable light black coffee and caramel fill up the palate. No sweetness, not very ‘Dry’. Close to the Schwarz style but very dour and lacking. Hmm… Hoppiness is thin grass in nose, light lemon and strawy grass in taste. Bitterness was moderately strong for a lasting,
light astringent finish; Fairly dry after taste; Roasty and light bitter to mouth.
Comments: This one feels like the regular Super Dry with dark malt as direct replacement. It more or less emulates the light black beer quite well, albeit artificially because of the rice. Not as dry and crisp as the Super Dry proper, it still worth a chug for a relaxing evening. Just okay and easy.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Clear dark beer, right carbonation with small beige head. The aroma has some earthy, leaves, chocolate and a slight cereal notes. The flavor is almost absent, a little of malt, but that’s it, light body, watery feeling, and almost nothing aftertaste, far away to be a good Schwarzbier

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
From a can in Narita, Japan. Pours dark, nearly opaque, black with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly. No real lacing on the glass. Aroma is faint and includes roasted malts. Taste is slightly sweet with roasted malts. No hops to speak of. Good carbonation. Thin mouthfeel.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20
very dark brown with a white head. smell is mild, some malt. taste is of malt, very little roast. some caramel sweetness, sweetness is only countered with astringency rather than bitterness. carbonation is strong and harsh. poor crap, a typical east asian "black beer"

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours two fingers of foamy tan head on a black body.
The aroma has an attempt at roasted malt... but has a mostly dry grain smell.
The taste has some roasted malt notes, mellow sweetness throughout but not overpowering. Retains a good balance.
The texture is smooth and lighter with lower carbonation.
An easy drinking black beer.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
350 ml can from Maruetsu. Was looking for something interesting but they didn’t really have much choice, so decided to try this one out. Pours actually nice, pitch black with a foamy, beige and long-lasting head. Leaves some nice lacing on a glass as well. I was expecting to get some roast in the aroma but nope - it is actually surprisingly fruity and fresh. I get something synthetical only when I sniff it third time. Taste… well it’s not so special. If I had blind-tasted it, I wouldn’t have been able to tell this beer is dark. It has carbonation, moving on to some sweet malt character and dry aftertaste. Something synthetic in the background. I’d like to know what was the brewer thinking when he decided to brew this one. Maybe something like this: "Why don’t I make a beer that tastes like Asahi Super Dry but looks dark?". It is a bit better than your usual Asahi - but only marginally so.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Can from the convenience store. Drunk from the can, a thin to medium body & a roasty malt aroma. The taste has some mild coffee & chocolate notes. Better than I expected but it is just a toned down schwarzbier. An alright choice if you’re stuck buying from a konbini.
