3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 maekchu (162) - Hirakata, JAPAN - APR 17, 2012
Can. Gentle hop, light malt, some grassy notes. Medium pale straw color, thin white head, and lots of carbonation. Very mild cereal flavors, and smooth bitterness. Medium body. Not bad for a macro brew.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 faroeviking (8805) - HAITI - SEP 9, 2009
Can, The Master All Malt. Clear golden. Aroma of hops and malt. Good mouthfeel. Malty flavour with a nice hoppy bitterness, little sweetness. Pleasant brew.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Capa (1626) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 2, 2009
I really didn’t want to buy this beer. I gave up on Asahi producing anything of worth a long time ago (save for their Black and Stout, both are pretty solid). I gave in to the Master and I’m actually pretty impressed. Crisp hops, clean finish, and rather refreshing on a warm spring evening. Best Asahi offering in a long time.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 improvjock (206) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 23, 2009
Pours a clear golden yellow with big white head. Has a surprisingly smooth mouth-feel. Is crisp and clean. Nothing special, but better than most Japanese macros.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 buzzoven (376) - JAPAN - JUN 9, 2009
It’s got a nice grassy smell and the malt flavour is upfront upon initial gulps. It has a crisp, clear clean palate, slightly dry with a watered down feel. Contains some lemon zest. Could have used a much stronger malt backbone but as a throw ’em back summer thirst quencher, this will do nicely.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUN 1, 2009
UPDATED: JUL 19, 2009 Can. Bright, deep golden color with a firm frothy, head. Looks nice! Sweet malt aroma, biscuity, with light hops and a bit of citrus. Crisp and clean flavor, controlled sweetness, a bit of fruit, decent hops. Ok bitter finish. Not a lot of character, but pretty well-done, actually.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Theis (9217) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - SEP 24, 2009
Can at Shinjuku City Hotel NUTS - Shared with Mette - after going to Kojyu, a ***-Micehlin restaurent. Clear golden - white head. Sweetness, grainy, hay, light hoppy, straw, light syrup, light bitterness. OK.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Wombata (210) - Kobe, JAPAN - OCT 6, 2009
Appearance: Transparent straw yellow.
Aroma: Perfumed, floral hop, honey, pear and ripe apple-like malt.
Flavor: Soft, floral, apple/pear malt with a mild, understated bittering on the finish.
Comment: The aroma is the best aspect of this beer. Though it may appeal to those who don’t like bitter flavors, to me its mild, fruity malt just barely has enough flavor to escape being bland. Easy drinking but not on my dime.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bartazo (74) - Esztergom, HUNGARY - APR 18, 2010
2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1697) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 1, 2010
Another ’better than expected’ treat. Light solid gold colour, a big white cap with ok coverage and speckled lacing. Malts.... lots of malts (reminded me of Birra Morena Puro Malto). Acceptably tasting grains, some spiced hops - this does get worse the longer this takes. Quite carbonated, small bubbles and a dry finish.
