Cask conditioned @ Nags Head, Reading. Roasty
malt aromas - tending towards dry and toasty rather than richly aromatic.
In the mouth slightly richer feel with hints of choc and some berries.
Quite dry with a reasonably bitter finish. A good everday sort of stout.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shoulderbroken (583) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAR 18, 2012
Bottle from Kris Wines at home. Very dark brown/black colour with golden brown bubbly head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty, lots of malt, touch of cream and something savoury, almost meaty. Bit of booziness too. Smells much stronger than 5%! Taste is chocolate, roasty malt, slight bitterness, bit of smoke. Some hoppy fruitiness too, can taste the orange. Quite unusual. Pretty thick and quite smooth. Nice long lasting roasty finish. Pretty nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 4, 2011
From cask (gravity dispense, stillage) at the Hop Pole Beer festival, Aylesbury on 21 March 2008. Pours almost black with a thin beige/brown head. Strong roast malt and chocolate aroma. Dry and quite bitter - the bitterness seems to come more from tangy hops (not sure I’d describe them as having a pine or resin character though) than burnt malt. The malt character is actually a little nutty and sweet, as well as moderately roasted. More chocolate than coffee. Well-balanced with a firm, clean mouthfeel. Plenty of presence but extremely drinkable too. Very impressive.

[cask at 2011 Battersea Beer Festival] Dark, roasty aromas coming from a very dark brown or black beer. Beige-coloured head that reduces fairly quickly. Nice chewy roast aromas, with a bitter finish that has some coffee and a touch of ash at the end. Very nice however [10022011]
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - DEC 28, 2010
RBESG 2010, cask at Brasserie 4:20 Black color; creamy head (sparkler). The aroma is a mix of chocolate, cereals, yeast, medicinal components. Lean body, chocolate flavor, very light liquorice, with correct bitterness; the final is dry, with a tad too much roasted malts. Not at its prime.
