This limited edition ’Imperial’ version of our award winning stout pours deeply black with a tan head. It has aromas of roasted coffee, alcohol & chocolate. The mouth feel is oily & thick tasting lightly roasted with dried fruits and licorice ending with a warming alcohol finish . One to savour – slowly!

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2012 Cask. Deep brown with a small tan head. Light nose, hoppy, some light roasted malts and coffee beans. The taste is of tangy port, cherries, light espresso. Some leather and roasted malts in support. Dry finish. Subtle carbonation. Overall, this seemed lacking for me. A beer that felt less than the sum of its parts.

Bottle at home in London. Pours opaque black with a moderate, tan head. I had to pour with quite a bit of vigor to coax some life into this fella. Nice, very dark malt aroma, some filter coffee, roasted cocoa, peat, liqueur. Interesting flavor. Not nearly as intense as I had expected. Some dry, roasty malts, leathery fruits, light grass, fire-kissed wood, burnt bread. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. There’s a bit more bitterness in the finish, a lightly grassy, peaty, roasty bitterness, with moderate sweetness, some dark berries, faint warmth but very little alcohol presence. A surprisingly quick finish, very little lingering around here. Some light peat and tobacco, faint grass - that’s about it. A very drinkable imperial stout. Not bad at all.

Cask conditioned, gravity dispensed at The Gunmakers Arms, Clerkenwell, London. Black with no head. Big, alcohol note right away at the start, licorice, coffee, burnt and slightly smoky malts, heavy on the palate. A bit of a headbanger.
