COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
A dark ale with a sophisticated blend of malts combined with a distinctive hop character. A balance of caramel and chocolate flavours from the malt and a great aroma of pine and citrus from whole hop flowers makes this a memorable beer. It’s a session beer to savour.

Cask conditioned at The Kings Arms, Stoborough, Dorset. Muddy brown with no head. Poor, poor condition, ropey maltiness with a little dryness. Sorry but I paid good money for this so I deserve my say even though the pub is at fault.

Cask at Ascot Festival 2011. Poured a dark brown with a thin white head. Plenty of citrus in the aroma, which leads to a caramel and malty taste.

Cask (White Horse, RBESG2011 Friday)
Rich roasty aroma. Rich roasty body. Delicate hopping brightens it up a bit. Alas I got a hint of kidney in this, which ain’t good. However, the band was great, and I got to show off proper headbanging to a bunch of gormless yuppies for whom the 70s was they read about in history books. Which gave me a great buzz, and made me very thirsty, so I loved a glug of this when I had the change. At least I can put the nearly falling over down to being an insane rattlehead rather than being drunk.

Cask (gravity dispense from stillage) at Battersea Beer Festival on 13 February 2009. Rather an odd beer. Or perhaps I should say unusual as the word "odd" can convey negative connotations and that is not my intention. Dark brown colour. Chocolate and roast malt in the aroma profile but there are flowery, slightly grassy hop elements too (US hops). More of the same on the palate where a hoppy, tangy bitterness is quite prominent. Initially, I assumed this was going to be a mild but there is far too much hop presence for that. Mouthfeel is light, bordering on thin. Some might say this is a beer with an identity crisis. I’d rather just say it is difficult to classify (who really cares anyway?). Unusual indeed, yet strangely appealing.

Nicely balanced, pleasant session beer. It’s fairly bitter but a bit too thin a palate to make this a beer to write home about.

(Cask at Bree Louise, Euston, London, 8 Aug 2010) Dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark fruit and toasty malt. Roasted, malty taste with notes of dark bread, prunes, raisins, coffee and a mild bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Rather light body. Decent bitter.
