Cask, handpump @ The Market Porter, Southwark, City of London. Bright, deepest chestnut brown that was shimmering in the light. Head was short-lived back to a thin tannish layer of suds that managed to mess up the glass as it emptied. Well pronounced aroma of chocolate icecream, burnt wood and heavily roasted coffee beans. Very dry and smoky in the mouth. Roasted, bitter grains meets dark chocolate, wood and ash. There is a peaking hop note on the swallow aiding the bitter dark malts. It shows good length as the body is quite light, but the flavour is well rounded. Chalky in mouthfeel, a building coffee note compliments. This pint sunk with such haste, sign of a great session ale. Really simple and pleasant, well made Porter.

[cask at Waggon & Horses, York] Dark almost black porter with hints of the light through it. Decent white head with a good retention. Lovely slightly smoky aromas of roasted dark malts with some coffee. Good rich mouthfeel with chocolate malt and a sour fruity finish that really cleaned the palate. Excellent beer [26022011]

[Cask at The Retreat, Reading] Intriguing deep bronzey-brown colour with a moderate creamy head. Sweet coffee & cough mixture aroma. Very smooth chocolate flavour, with a big hit of roasted malt, and some leafy hops showing through. A lasting dry, earthy bitterness in the finish. Excellent stuff.
