A refreshing English style wheat ale that’s dry hopped to give a citrus, well balanced finish - perfect for those warm, sunny days.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival on 3 May 2008. Golden amber colour. Rather flat. Some lime citrus elements in the flavour. Not a lot else happening to be honest. If by "English style wheat ale" they mean a standard golden ale with a proportion of wheat in the mash I guess this pretty much nails the style. But it’s not a style I generally enjoy too much. It tends to sacrifice the distinctive elements of Belgian or German wheat beers leaving a light, easy drinking quaffer, which is pretty much what I got here. Body is rather thin. OK but short of interest. To be fair, the condition wasn’t great, so flagged for re-rate.

Cask at the Brewery Tap, Wimbledon, 12th July 2008 with renffisch. Clear amber with a citrus and sour apple nose. Lemon and peach flavours present but a pretty forgettable ale.

Cask gravity @ Reading Beer Festival 2008.
Clear medium orange color with a small, virtually none appearance, fair lacing, fully diminishing, head. Aroma is light malty, moderate hoppy, citrus, grass. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to light heavy bitter with a average to long duration, and a dry finsh. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (030508)

Bottle. The colour is amberish golden with almost no head. Citrus hops aroma. Quite bitter flavours with refreshing citrus. Some sour notes, but otherwise little to suggest that this a Belgian wit. Refreshing on a hot day for sure.

After two flavoursome brews from Ascot, we had to give the third offer at Market Porter a try. This is the English style of wheat beer that is a bit different in taste than the German and Belgian styles. Hazy, brown body with a bubbly ring around the rim of the glass. Dry floral smell. Flavour of peaches and pineapple mixed with underlying malts. Dry mouthfeel (01.05.2008).
