A Mes rate:
First of I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this. Selected by Asda? What the funk do they know? But ahh well itís a Shepherd Neame so they do at least know something! Not sure how porterish this is but its fairly decent. Aroma is faint but tasty, sweet roasted malts being the order of the day. The nose is really quite good actually but its always hard to rate something that is not on point style wise. Appearance is just how I like it, reddish black and virtually opaque. Head is just a slight covering but at least it doesnt vanish completely. Flavour wise its just one dimensional. Sweet roasted malts, not as much bitterness as you would think and a dollop of creamy chocolate. It has that typical Shepherd Neame stickyness to the finish which I donít really care for but whatever, I enjoyed this bottle and it slipped down very easily.

Dont expect that a lot of people try this as its a supermarkets own brand. This is a pity as itís a well balanced porter which combines sweetness with a dry aftertaste. Well worth a try.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Asda. Black until held to light - dark ruby. Malty, earthy aroma with a little roast and chocolate. Mouthfeel thinnish for the style. Could use bottle conditioning. Fairly pedestrian attempt at a porter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. A dark petrolly brown coloured beer with no head. The aroma is fairly thin but there are chocolate malts noticeable. The taste is lightly roasty with more chocolate but, disappointingly, a thin mouthfeel. Obviously a dead beer.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Asda, High Wycombe. Pours dark ruby with a large, fluffy tan head. Aroma is dusty with some manky malt. Flavour is thin and sweet malty with lots of fruit and a little acidity. Dead in the bottle and boring. Towards the end, as it warms up it becomes fuller, sweeter but still retains a tinny acidity.

Dark brown with some ruby colour, beige frothy head. Sweetish malty aroma. taste is malty, chocolately, fruity with some fairly bitter hops at the end.
A king amongst pasteurised brews, as in its not bad.
