A very nice offering from Shepherd Neame. Very smooth, lovely, velvety mouthfeel, good carbonation, fine aroma, what does a good porter need more? Well, the label mine came with (not the one on the accompanying picture) was a bit cluttered, with maybe a tad too much suggestive ("rich, spice, chocolate") wording of the porter-cliché-kind. Don’t pay attention to it, this is a very good beer.

(Bottle): Pours almost black with medium tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, some light hints of nuts. Taste is mostly roasted malt base with coffee and dark chocolate. Some moderate bitterness to go along with it. Not bad, quite a basic porter.

Pretty good actually. Some chocolate and a nice richness to it. I do like porters. I drained my first. There’s something warm and comforting about them. Whitechapel Road. £4. Next to either -£200 or a chance. I rather take a chance, though that depends on what it’s on, if it’s on the chanteurs of Abba-esque I’ll send the £200 to wherever it needs to go.
