Pretty good actually. Some chocolate and a nice richness to it. I do like porters. I drained my first. There’s something warm and comforting about them. Whitechapel Road. £4. Next to either -£200 or a chance. I rather take a chance, though that depends on what it’s on, if it’s on the chanteurs of Abba-esque I’ll send the £200 to wherever it needs to go.

AROMA: toast, roasty, hint of coffee, chocolate,
APPEARANCE: black, minimal head,

PALATE: light body, thin feel, lively, bitter, dry
OVERALL: little to know aroma, has hints of aroma/tastes of a porter but lacks body and character. Finished half of a pint.

Bottle...from ASDA obviously. This is very thin for a porter and there was not enough roasted malt flavor for my taste.

5th February 2011 Opaque black beer, small tan head. Light dry palate. Mild dark malt with traces of roast and coffee. Some sweeter malt as well and a little bubblegum ester underneath. Dry finish with a bitter malt and hop snap. Too dry, but okay.

Bottle. Almost black beer. Aroma of chococoffee. The taste is of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate and greek coffee. Typical of the Porters I am used to. The palate is a little weak however. Overall a good beer, a style I like.

Okay, let’s deal with the elephant in the room. I went here to get a Caesar salad. The assistant said they didn’t stock it in this branch but he would phone the Cov Rd store and they would put one on the side for me. 5 miles for a bag of salad. Not for me, thanks, but cheers for the offer. That was Thursday. Today is slightly fizzy chocolate flavoured porter day. I wouldn’t drive 5 miles for this either. Got the salad from Sainsbury in the end.
