COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Green Monstah is a big beer that goes down easy with a smooth malty-sweetness. It is made from only the finest organic malts, balanced with medium hop character. Caramel flavors predominate with notes of sherry, toast and raisons. Don’t be afraid of the Monstah! IBU=40, ABV=9.2%

Tap at Freshcraft - okay, so this is the third strike from this brewer for me - I wanted to give them a fair shake because they are local and all organic, but their beer is just bad - this one, for example, is abrasive in about as many ways as a beer can be - the hops are poorly balanced and very astringent and the alcohol makes it even more difficult to palate - the malt base tries really hard to cover this up, but just adds some sticky sweetness to the mess - a lot of fusel alcohol flavor and even some odd vegetal notes in the back - a total effing mess - sorry, asher, but I shan’t be trying any more of your beer.

Draft. Pours a thin off white head, with slight lacing, over a hazy dark amber (SRM 12) body....nose is light plum, grain, cereal....taste is bitter to start, with light toffee/caramel, light dried fruits, raisin, finishing with of kilter bitter chemical tones....mouth feel medium, alcohol adds a fusel layer, carbonation low. This is not well balanced and the various flavors do not make for a great tasting beer. I think the problem this brewery has is the relative lack of organic ingredients for the brewing industry. These guys can make good beer. BJCP 6/3/10/4/5

On tap at Avery Strong Ale Fest poured a clear orange amber with a small lasting amber head. Aroma of bread, citrus, light carmel and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness and a hint of citrus with a smooth dry finish.

GABF 2011. Pours clear amber-brown with a medium-light, frothy off-white to light tan head, medium retention with great lacing. Aroma is heavy grain, cereal, and meal malt, light caramel, earthy hops. Flavor is malty with medium hops and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth.

Not sure why there’s no love for this strong ale. I thought it had a very good malty flavor. Not super complex, but very full on the palate and enjoyable.

Tap at brewery. Dark red/orange appearance with medium sized off white head. Alcohol, strong malts, and a strong impression of what’s to come. Lightly carbonated, syrupy, malty, and strangely underhopped for a DIPA. Reminds me of a poor attempt at Arrogant Bastard. Sure you get the alcohol at 10% but the beer is messed up and syrupy.
