Draft to pint at the Coxe Ave brewpub. The name on the board has it combined as one word (not two). Looks good; a translucent dark cola with foamy light beige head. Smells of hops and dark malt with a bit of roast as well. Tastes like it smells with a nice chocolate presence too. Pleasant on the palate. A good Black IPA.

Comes out of the tap a barely translucent (and only at the very edges) chocolate brown with a nice buff head that leaves generous lacing. Roast malt aroma has a strong hoppy overtone and a hint of caramel. Hoppy flavor has caramel, roast malt, woody and subtle chocolate notes. Texture is fairly fizzy if a bit thin. Get your villain on!

Had on tap watching movie "her". Nice black IPA. Pours a transparent-ish black color with not much head. Nice lacing. Has some chocolate and espresso that plays nicely with IPA-like flavors- pine, citrus. Medium mouthfeel- lighter and more refreshing than red light. Really nice. Enough bitter in the finish to keep it interesting. 67 IBU’s.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a translucent brownish black on tap with fluffy tan head that displayed to leave light lace. Aroma of dark and roasty malt with a light hop presence. Taste follows, not very bitter or impressive really. Meh.

Tap at Paradiso Dupont. Pours a clear cola red. Excellent webby lacing. Nose is hazelnut, cookie, pine. Taste is solid bitter chocolate, spices, spruce needles, pine sap. Bitter but very nicely balanced with moderate roasted malt and chocolate. Easily the best of our flight.

Beer #6, Asheville trip. Just called Black IPA at the brewery, but appears to be the same beer (maybe just re-tooled?). Very deep brown appearance. Aroma of pine, light espresso. Flavor is a match - with pine and grapefruit hops. Again, a really well made beer. One of my favorites at the brewpub.
