3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2015 On tap at the Creekside Tavern, this pours a light amber into the glass, with a decent soapy head that leaves spotty lacing. The nose is spot on for jalapeño peppers, caramel and some sweet vegetal notes. Flavors are of caramel, biscuit flour and pepper skins with floral hops, light vanilla and a nice dose of capsaicin to finish the pull. The mouthfeel, once past the heat (which isn’t nearly the hottest brew I’ve ever had, but those sensitive to spice might find a little warm), is medium-bodied and softly carbonated. Definitely lively to the palate. A very interesting jalapeño take on their traditional "Escape Artist" pale ale. Honestly, it’s definitely become a guilty pleasure for me, as I quite like this jalapeño brewed version. (This, of course, comes from a fan of spicy foods.)

Tap. Orange color. Whoa, jalepaño! Tastes of eating a fresh jalepaño. That is all.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Lightly hazed amber body with medium off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, orange, grapefruit, juicy jalapeno. Taste is medium sweet, orange, light chile/chile heat. Light-medium body, light acidity. Really like how the heat in the nose is significantly moderated in the taste.

This is basically the escape artist with jalapenos thrown in. Pouring a light orange from tap the jalapenos dominate everything. I happen to like jalapenos but the taste is a bit one note. This stuff lingers for hours so make sure it’s the last thing you drink for the night.

Had as part of flight at Juicy Lucy’s. Pours nice orange color. Low marks for appearce- no head at all. Taste is malty and spicy all at once. Great beer if you are a lover of the jalapeno. Not at all subtle in the spice. Sort of masks the other flavors going on- would be good with food that could stand up to it. They might tame each other a bit. Bit spicy for me, but not bad.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Location: Draft at Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company (Merrimon Ave), 1/3/15
Aroma: This beer has a light hop nose, with some fairly strong pepper notes to it
Appearance: It pours an orange color, with an off white head and some coating lace
Flavor: The flavor is more pepper forward over the light, clean hops
Palate: It has a pretty smooth feel, with a medium body, and a pepper spice finish
This is a pretty decent pepper spice beer. I can’t complain too much, because they did a nice job with this one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
4oz on tap at the brewpub. Clear orange amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves great, thicker lace. Whoa. I did not expect the pepper before my first sip. It’s certainly obvious now. Though, not over the top. Nice roasted, toasty smoked jalapeno pepper aroma. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Light slick finish. Moderate sweet taste. Light bitter. Some peppery kick. Definitely interesting stuff. Fun to try.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the brewpub on Coxe. Wow ... this is an aptly named brew. The pepper jumps out at you instantly and sticks with you. Quite spicy, but the pepper is also well-woven into a solid pale ale. If this is your thing, it’s a good thing. But not for everyone. (#4295, 10/5/2011)

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2012 Draft. This is their Escape Artist with jalapeños added. It certainly smells spicy and peppery; what you would expect from a jalapeño beer. It’s not as spicy and peppery in the flavor; toned down from the aroma but there’s still some jalapeño heat. Caramel mingles in. Interesting beer.
