You can smell the jalapenos right away. Once you taste it, the pale ale hits you first and then the jalapenos. It gets spicier over time. Jalapenos overwhelm the hops. This is a beer you don’t want to drink without some food. Goes nice with spicy food. Pretty good beer, don’t know if I would have it again but I’m glad I tried it.

Draft, sampler: aroma is roasted peppers, smells like tasty food. The flavor is more roasty smokiness than heat, but the heat is there a little bit as well. THE BEST pepper beer I have ever had. Tasty, tasty stuff.

On tap at Thirsty Monk in Asheville. Pours slightly hazy golden with a white head. Nose shows mild hop presence, some burnt jalapeño and wet dog. Taste is nicely balanced, with more flavor than heat from the peppers but I nice slight kick at the end.

Draft at brewer. Copper pour with a thick white head. Big pepper smell. Taste is mellow then fire. Different and better than most pepper brews.

Draft. Pours amber orange with a white head. Light chili aroma with some pale malts. The flavor has good jalapeno flavor with not a ton of heat, with a plain pale malty base. Solid.

A nice easy drinking pale ale with a wonderful jalapeno flavor. Would be interesting to taste the ale w/o the spice. Flavors work excellent together. Guess I expected this to fail, but turned out nice. Enjoyability 5/5.

I had this one on draft at the Pizza location, and I loved every sip. It was the first beer I tried on my trip to Asheville, and I immediately knew it’d be the one I’d take home in a growler. The pepper is present throughout the taste, with a lingering on the palate minutes after drinking, and it is unlike any other pepper beer I have tried. This is a new favorite of mine and one I won’t soon forget!
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Suttree (3921) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 23, 2011
I think chile peppers are an underused ingredient in beer. More, please, I say! Anyway, this one smelled like jalapeno pepper and caramel. Flavor was also jalapeno and caramel at first, but eventually the pepper overtakes everything. Sure, this may be a novelty, but I liked it.

Hazed orange pour with frothy off white head and lace. Nose completely dominates the nose. Musty jalapeno flavor that heats up some bitter on the finish but mostly hot. Thin body with light carbonation. A beer I like I’m sure more than most people.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Braudog (4604) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - OCT 8, 2011
Draft at the brewpub on Coxe. Wow ... this is an aptly named brew. The pepper jumps out at you instantly and sticks with you. Quite spicy, but the pepper is also well-woven into a solid pale ale. If this is your thing, it’s a good thing. But not for everyone. (#4295, 10/5/2011)
