Draft. Pours dark brown medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, roasty, chocolate. Taste is sweet. Full body, texture on the creamy side, finishes roasty with some sweet. Good representation of the style and one of the better Asheville Brewing beers.

Classic robust porter. The nose is strong coffee with subtle hints of chocolate. Deep black, but not quite transparent with a small tan head. Full of roast notes with a balance between sweet and bitter. Smooth with a crisp roasty finish and some lingering chocolate presence.

On tap at Olive or Twist in Asheville. Malt and ice cream aroma. Almost as dark as a porter, tan lacing head. Roasted nut, cocoa, dark malt, oak in flavor. Full porter feel. Well done
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Drjohnrock (288) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 17, 2012
Draft sampler at Asheville Brewing’s Merrimon Avenue location. Almost opaque dark brown/ruby hue, small tan head, good firm roasted malt aroma, thin body for a porter, pretty good predominately malty flavor with some chocolate notes. Not the most intense porter you’ll find but pretty good. Tasted on July 7, 2012.

I expected to really like this, but I was unpleasantly surprised. Poured a dark brown with a ridiculously thick head that took a long time to disappear. Overly carbonated. Has some roasted malt flavors, but finishes almost sour. Really not one of the better porters.

Gift from SJ Bottled. Ok I like Porters, this was good, but average. Typical, nice roast, coffee and dry bitter chocolate finish.. Looks like the got an idea, now knock it out the park next time.

Bomber from Bruisin Ales. Pours pretty dark brown with a creamy frothy beige head that deconstructs in a weird way. Aromas of chocolate and burnt malt, with something suggesting a little sour - or maybe it’s coffee. Med minus body. Flavor is ashy chocolate with some burnt malt and coffee. Seems halfway between stout and porter. Maybe a little bit of lactose in the finish - or something that suggests that. Nice porter.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 PaperKnife (82) - - MAY 29, 2012
Draft at the brewpub. Black and lighter around the edges. Foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty. Coffee, roast malt, and some hop bitterness.

Strong aroma and tempting appearance leads to a more mild than expected taste and simple mouthfeel.

Originally reviewed: 1/14/10. Another of the offerings I had at the brewpub the other night. Came out a dark black with a bit of light around the edges. Small tan head capped it off. Sip rings and lace present. Scents of coffee, milk chocolate, and dark breads.
Another full-bodied beer here. I like the depth of this. This is definitely a more coffee-forward beer. Flavors of espresso, pumpernickel bread, and graham crackers. This was my favorite offering of the night I think. Well done!
