3.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is probably one on the easiest drinking dark beers I have ever hard. It’s a porter but it’s smooth enough to drink whenever. It’s even good from the can although on tap is my favorite.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with a white head. Nose of sweet malts and roast. Roasted flavors some acidic roast. A little cream in the flavor as well. Decent.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This one sat in the fridge for awhile after I had brought it back from a backpacking trip in North Carolina. Pours nearly black with a hint of red. Head is limited and lacing nearly nonexistent. Mouthfeel is slightly viscous with a limited amount of carbonation. Alcohol and roasted grain dominate the nose. Flavor is roasty with a touch of citrus. I think this beer may be a bit underrated. Goes well with a touch of praline ice cream. Bottle - Ingles Market - Brevard, NC

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle. Dark brown (nearly black) pour, with a huge, bubbly, tan head. Aroma of burnt sugar, cherries, very light coffee, and some peat. Nice, mellow sweetness through the middle, with some light bitterness in the finish. Light to medium body, lightly astringent, and a little watery. Light carbonation. Overall, this is an interesting porter, with very little of the standard burnt aromas, but focusing instead on a good hop profile. The mouthfeel is a little weak, though.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at esbls. Dark red black. A ring. I smell smoky coffee. That defines the flavor, too.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can from Sam’s, Durham. Kind of an atrocious label, a bad Frank Miller silhouette from early 1980s Daredevil. But otherwise, it’s a decent looking brew once it escapes the aluminum. Looks a bit thin, but the head is lustrous. Nice chocolate malts and mild roasts in the nose. Sure enough, body is weakish, compromising the encounter with the otherwise solid flavors. Decent but I don’t think I’d be inclined for a return trip.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Smell is caramel, chocolate, light coffee, mild smell overall. Taste is bitter cocoa, old coffee, low medium sweetness, roasted malts, and a ever so slight back end metallic tang. A bit thin and overly carbonated. Averageish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can. Poured near black with a creamy light brown head. Roasted malts and coffee aroma. Maybe a bit thin but still a good porter.
