Everyone loves a good ninja, and we’re no exception. This beer has chopped, flipped and posed its way to its pedestal as one of our most popular and asked-about offerings. "How?" you may ask. Part of it is pure stealth power and part of it is pure secret, and we’d have to kill you. But the other part is the rich, satisfying body and hard-hitting chocolate finish with notes of coffee and caramel. Carefully measured quantities of Mt. Hood, Northern Brewer and Cascade hops added with masterful precision balance it all out.

Sampled at the brewpub. It poured a red/dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was moderately sweet, with chocolate, some roast and light citrus. The taste was moderately sweet, with chocolate, coffee/roast and light citrus. It had a light to medium body and was somewhat smooth.

Draft to taster at the Cox Ave brewpub. Looks good; a translucent dark cola with light beige head. Smells solid; dark malt, chocolate, and mild coffee. Tastes like it smells, but not as rich or balanced. Average on the palate with a mildly bitter mouthfeel. Not bad, but smells better an it tastes.

Pours a deep coffee brown with a light tan head. Roast malt aroma has a strong mocha overtone and a hint of licorice. Flavor has a roast malt core and notes of coffee and chocolate plus a snip of licorice. Texture is a bit thin, and fizz is lacking - but this is still one Ninja worth taking on.

Good smooth coffee notes in a strong porter both on draft at the brewery and in a can. I also had the queen ninja which implement some English hops. Almost a better version of this very good porter.

Had on tap at Beer City Bicycles while watching Canadian women win Gold in hockey at Sochi Olympics. Great selection of local brews on tap- plus bikes- great place. Pours dark and thick- not much head. All your typical porter flavours- coffee, earthy, caramel - nicely balanced with the hops. It’s good- just nothing really different or exceptional about it. Mouthfeel more like a stout to me. Nice winter sipper. Not bad, feel like they just played it a bit safe.

Chocolate, roasty aroma, dark in color, thick caramel head, as it warms you get a slight smokey flavor and finishes smoeth and chocolatey, low carbonation. Drinks like a Dry Irish Stout really.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. More hop forward aroma than most porters, but with the standard coffee and roasted malt aromas. Deep reddish-brown flavor with a tan head. Creamier than I’d expect from a porter, with plenty of hop assertiveness. Very low carbonation. It has a milk chocolate finish. Really smooth porter that doesn’t necessarily do anything special, but doesn’t do anything wrong either. It’s a hophead’s porter.
