4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at APBC. Pours hazy amber with a medium thick head . Excellent balance of hoppy bitterness with the slight maltiness. Slightly grainy but with a lasting hoppy kick in the finish. This is one of my favorite brews and in my opinion the best brew Asheville Pizza has to offer..

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at the brewpub. Attractive hazy orange color with thick foamy head that laced the glass. Delicious floral/citrusy hop aroma. Hop flavor is dominant with a soft malty caramel flavor in the backround. Bitter hop finish with a nice cereal grain aftertaste. Very good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewery. Poured hazy brownish orange. Nice hoppy fresh grain aroma. Adequate body for the style. Crisp, grassy hops with a hint of grapefruit. Light nutty malt. Long lightly bitter grapefruit finish. An enjoyable beverage and with a name like ďred lightĒ (as in district) you canít go wrong for #420.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
draught. Pours a cloudy amber with a frothy white head. Thereís grapefruit and a bit of pine in the nose. More grapefruit in the flavor, bit of twigs, some butter toffee, the hops are semi-biting. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2006 Red, as the name implies. But not particularly light, so I suppose that portion of the name is a bit of a misnomer. Also kinda cloudy, which isnít even addressed in name. If you want, you could call it "Red Cloud IPA" and be much more accurate. Anyway, smells kind of peppery and citrusy, with a hint of cedar. Stoney, piney hops dominate the flavor, with just a hint of cereal maltiness as well as a touch of caramel. Very tasty brew.

Hey! Wow! I tried this beer a few months ago, but I was too lazy to get the information in order to add it to the RareBeer database (Thanks Walter!) This was one of the first beers I drank after turning 21 this year. And being from Asheville, the APC is a primary source of booze for many college students such as myself. This is a great beer. Honestly, I think I like it better than the Shiva, although the Shiva is a classic APC beer... What more can I say? Next time youíre at the Asheville Pizza Company, try the Shiva first, but then try the Red Light if itís available. This is a great ale. Banzai!!!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft, Asheville Pizza and Brewing Co., Asheville NC. Medium golden color. Slight hops and sweet malts on the nose. Medium body with mild bitter hop flavor and even keeled maltiness. Crisp finish. The commercial description is pretty well right-on. I lean toward the highly hopped and alcohol-sweet IPAs, which this is not; but itís a fine brew in its own right.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewpub. This one is now called "Red Light IPA." This is darker in color than the Shiva IPA as it is amber. Also, a bit maltier than the Shiva with much more of a robust bitter finish. Good boiling hop content. Only drawback is a slight grainy flavor. Delicious!
