Originally reviewed 1/14/10. This is apparently a new offering by this little brewpub. Came out a deep black with a thin mocha head on top. Left nice sip rings and little lace spots. Scents of roasted malts and nuts, and a slight coffee twang.
Full, creamy body on this beer. Almost chewable. Flavors of dark bitter chocolate, a mild creamy sweetness in the middle, and a slight charring finish. This is a very well-made stout. I liked it a lot. Recommend.

On draught at the brewer’s theater location. Pours deep mahogany with walnut fringes and a settled tan head that leaves light soap lacing. Roasty nose with some dark esters and subtle chocolate. Roasted malt with hints of light fruit, coffee beans and roasty bitters. A little licorice in there toward the end alongside the bitter coffee finish. Creamy palate with a thin body and subtle carbonation. Decent stout.

On tap at the merrimon location. Pours a deep dark brown near black, frothy tan head. Aroma is very roasty, pine, licorice and anise is pretty big, decent amounts of dark chocolate, and light fruity esters- some coffee hints. Flavor is moderate roast, some coffee, chocolate mint, pine, anise, leather and earth- medium sweet middle with a bit harsh burnt malts in the end with lots of mineral prickliness in the end. Ok.
