The destroyer, the creator, the benefactor. Shiva is all these things. We set out to create an IPA that anyone can enjoy, and we think we succeeded. As the flagship beer in our lineup, we’ve yet to encounter a soul who believes contrary. A crisp, citrusy Indian Pale Ale with a light color, Shiva will destroy all your preconceptions of an IPA. A transcendentally simple malt bill accents a generous helping of Columbus hops, lending an intense floral aroma with hints of grapefruit and a pleasant bittering quality. Your palette will be lifted to higher planes of consciousness with a bittersweet finish.

Poured from a can. Dark orange in color. Slightly hazy, with plenty of carbonation and a foamy white head. Aroma of wheat and faint grassy/citrusy hops. Taste is lightly malted, sweet, mild hops, and big time bitterness that lingers. Seems a bit off balance. No detection of alcohol. Okay beer.

4oz on tap at the brewpub. Clear orange color. Thin off-white head, leaving great, full sheets of lace. Very nice grapefruit hop, very zesty, assertive, and graepfruity. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Lightly slick. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, light to moderate sweet, mild alcohol warmth. Works well with the hops. A very nice assertive, potent, IPA. Awesome aroma, but a touch sweet.

Location: Can at Early Girl, 1/2/15, even the breakfast places in Asheville all have craft beer!

Aroma: The nose is grapefruit, earthy, and floral hop notes, with some bready malts.
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear orange color, with a beige head, and medium lace.
Flavor: The flavor is similar to the nose component-wise, light sweetness, and medium bitter.
Palate: It has a medium body, average carbonation, and a fairly long, dry finish.
Overall Impression: If there is one thing you have to appreciate about Asheville it’s how every place you go has local craft beer. I doubt there’s a restaurant/bar/gas station anywhere in this town that only has BMC. Anyway, I’m glad they have craft here, but this isn’t my favorite local IPA. Still, you could do a lot worse, and I love canned craft, so cudos for that.

Average IPA. 3rd IPA I've had from Asheville. For all the hype I've heard about it I'm coming away a little underwhelmed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
