COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The destroyer, the creator, the benefactor. Shiva is all these things. We set out to create an IPA that anyone can enjoy, and we think we succeeded. As the flagship beer in our lineup, we’ve yet to encounter a soul who believes contrary. A crisp, citrusy Indian Pale Ale with a light color, Shiva will destroy all your preconceptions of an IPA. A transcendentally simple malt bill accents a generous helping of Columbus hops, lending an intense floral aroma with hints of grapefruit and a pleasant bittering quality. Your palette will be lifted to higher planes of consciousness with a bittersweet finish.

Tap - Having had this beer several times over the years, is can go either way. This brewery does not make consistent beer. Pours into an deep orange color with a small frothy head. Piney hop aromas, with a pretty well balanced malt backbone, just not a very strong one, which is fine because the ops are not at present overwhelming. Finishes really thin, and does not leave me wanting more.

Mild aroma and almost orange pour with stronger than expected taste with a hint of grapefruit and dry on the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from Bruisin Ales. Pours light amber with a creamy white head. Aroma is mixed floral and citrus. About med body. Flavor is rather floral with some citrus rind following. The malt backbone is mild caramel. So this is not a NW imitation. Just a good solid beer that finishes nicely hoppy and bitter.

22oz bomber pours a light orange color with a nice white head. Aromas of peach, apricot, light citrus. Light bodied, weird finish for an ipa

Originally reviewed 1/14/10. Had this at the brewpub the other night. Came out a murky dark gold with a small off-white head. Retention was fair; left some sip rings and lace. Scents of spicy hops, some light pine, and orange zest. Crisp refreshing mouth on this beer. Light bubbles tickle the tongue. Good sharp bitterness right away, nothing that lingers too long though. Some mild citrus flavors; spicy nature on the back end. This was another good offering, from a great brewery. I really am impressed with these guys.

Can from Bruisin’ Ales (Asheville). Cool art on the can. Confusing aroma. A mix of citrus/grass. Not a pungent hoppy green nose here as per a standard IPA. Hops hiding in the background. Pours hazy yellow-orange. Very light body. Slight floral taste. A weak, lightweight IPA. Unfortunate. Asheville Brewing makes some outstanding brews. This is not one of them.

Strong, hoppy aroma has an overtone of somewhat sweet grapefruit and a touch of orange. It pours an attractive amber with a nice white head that leaves some decent lacing. Flavor has a strong grapefruit overtone that is more sour than sweet. Core of the flavor is hoppy with some malt and a floral hint. Though the sour and bitter flavors are strong and the sweetness is subtle, they complement each other nicely. Grapefruit finish has hoppy, malty and floral notes. Firm texture has quite a bit of fizz and leaves a fairly persistent tingle on the tongue and lips. And you gotta see the kewl art on the bottle!

22 oz. bomber from Bruisin’ Ales. Poured hazy light orange with huge fluffy white head that left some splotches. Faint grassy nose. Grassy, floral flavor with a dry finish. Some astringent metallic flavor also present. Thin. Below average IPA, this beer needs an overhaul.

Draft. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Flowery hoppy aroma with pale malts. The flavor has floral hops, light citric notes, a pale and clean malty base, and some medium lingering bitterness. Not bad.

Can, courtesy Guyute_Pig. The body is a crystal clear medium golden hue strewn with fine streams of pinpoint bubbles. A tall, thick head of grayish-cream foam settles to a thin but lasting blanket, leaving thick, striated swaths of gauze lacing on the glass. Aromatic flaws are instantly apparent, even at arm’s length from the glass. Dirty plastic notes hint at infection, and buttery diacetyl also comes into play. Underlying malts seem to have promise, showing dry, crackery bread and toast character, but alas, they succumb to the band-aid notes. Citrus hops are faded and dusty, not bright and biting. The first sip confirms the infection....melted rubber/plastic is harsh and astringent. I can’t push through to take another sip....this one’s going down the drain. The palate is overly dry, dusty, prickly, and dragging, and that aftertaste....ugh. Bad, bad beer. Worst infection I’ve come across is a long while. Get you sanitation in line, fellas.
