3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark black with tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate and coffee. Very smooth buttery texture is the first thing i noticed. Small amount of carbonation. Taste exactly like it smells, dark chocolate mocha flavor, coffee, smoke. Well balanced good stuff.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown, a bit cloudy and with a thin head. Lightly smokey nose, with tart/charry notes that I don’t like. Good (I am a smoke whore, after all), but quite a few areas need improvement. The smoke is a bit different, and I like that, but the weak malt character does nothing to make this beer better.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bomber bottle and served in Bells snifter: Pours a moderate brown hue with an okay frothy beige head and okay lace. The aroma has a mild aroma of smoked meaty malts, some chocolate, vanilla, walnuts, crystal. and herbal hops. The taste has some twangy acidity and smoke notes but appears to be more porter (and a very average one at that). Mocha, vanilla and nutty notes with a hint of coffee and hop bitterness. Just seems a tad underwhelming and without a lot of depth of character. The mouth feel is chalky and a tad under carbonated. Really, this did not do much for me outside some meaty notes.

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle, purple label, purple cap. Dark brown color, no head. Aroma of lunch meat and mocha. Flavor of smoked malts, roasted grains, some coffee and chocolate. Tastes better than the aroma. Finishes with a sweet fruit character, along with the smoke and roasted flavors. (3288)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Black with a light tan head that’s never less than a coat. Mocha aroma with some singed toffee. Sweet with mocha and Indian fudge, cardamon, vanilla, light smoke. Gentle bitterness and a touch of sourness at the end, but there’s something (oranges?) slightly distracting about the hops there too. But it’s complex without being at all shouty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice dark colour. On the palate it has a nice subtle maltiness which is nicely balanced with the sweetness of the mocha coffee.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Total Wine. Black, the tan head leaves some doily lace. Aroma is dry and certainly smokey, in a mesquite type of quality, or BBQ sauce, chipotle. Very dry, lingering flavors, balancing acidity, could use more body but the flavors are very nice and it really imparts a BBQ sauce thing and coffee-encrusted smoked red pepper. Quite nice.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The aroma slightly smokey with chocolate, coffee, and burnt malt. The appearance is brown with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall this is a good beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Semi clear black with a foamy thick persistent light tan head, leaves lots of lace. Smells like smoke from some kind of delicious wood, maybe hickory or mesquite...not sure...as well as a dose of dark bakers cocoa and a touch of char. The mouthfeel is really nice, being smooth with velvety smooth fine carbonation. Taste is smokey with some overroasted black malt and a bit of chocolate malt. The body isn’t too heavy, but the flavor is full on. Its sweet with some dark caramel tones with some burnt toffee/chocolatiness, but is also bitter with smokey tones. Balanced, but just not finding its place with me.
