COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Ass Kisser Porter Pounder is a dark, rich balanced ale that is smooth and yet structured with light coffee and mocha aromas. The subtle smoky aroma lures your palate to sip through the dark tan head. Enjoy with grilled and spiced foods. Formerly brewed at Rahr (at 8.03%).

[bottle from somewhere in Chicago] Sweet plum and tobacco aroma with some faint smoke character. Very dark red-brown with a quickly dropping light brown top. Very sweet molasses flavour with vanilla and faint smoke notes. Chocolate comes in late with a moderate bitterness that leaves the balance on the sweet side. Full body, low to moderate carbonation, sweet finish.

Poured into an English pint glass. Pours a dark translucent brown, with a red tinge; about half a finger of thin beige head that disappears quickly. The aroma is mostly malts, with a hint of camp fire. Taste is very similar to the nose. Mostly malts, with a pleasant smokey aftertaste. The flavor is less intense than I would expect from an 8% beer, but by no means is it weak. The palate is light bodied for a porter, with a thin, soft texture. Itís a good beer, but I was expecting more flavor from Ass Kisser, considering how in your face their double IPA is.

Whatís most notable about this beer is its integrity: most beers alter slightly as you sip through them, becoming more or less heavy or sharp as you go (the flavours somehow summate, settle into the palate, etc.). This beer is an exception: it manages to stay consistently light and crisp each pass. Other qualities of note: the alcohol is high but backgrounded; dark chocolate undercurrents tapper into smoky mid-tones, with a slight hint of oatmeal. All that said, thereís a home-brew quality to this beer I canít shake; no matter how much I appreciate its integrity, it reminds me of a best batch from a friendís brew-kit. NOTE: after letting it warm up in my glass the flavour didnít change but the texture did, making the overall experience much more unique/velvety. I had to adjust my ranking upwards slightly after noting the difference. DONíT DRINK THIS TOO COLD (even if like me you like cold beer).

22oz bottle. Pours with a small tan head. Roasted chocolate aromas. Chocolate roast aromas. Very little smoke aroma or flavor. Finishes with residual coffee and chocolate. Some light fruity esters. Overall a good beer not very smokey though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rauchbier-ish, toasted soy nut aroma. Dark, clear, ruby black. Bad label, standard US longneck. Subtle smoke and creosote on a tangy malt backdrop. Moderate sugary sweetness, not hugely bitter. Medium body. Would make a damn fine beef marinade, but it was a little simpler than I would have liked. Didnít get the impression that this was heavy gravity at all. ABC, Bull Run.

Not bad. had during a camping trip so it was in a turvis tumbler. Hard to tell the appeareance. It had light coffee and more smoked malts. We had ribs with it so I thought it went well.

Poured medium brown with a thin tan head that left ok lacing. Moderate aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate with a touch of hops. Flavors mirrored the smell, with an underlying toasted biscuit flavor and mild offsetting hops bitterness. Medium body, good carbonation and a smoky finish.

Poured into my Tulip glass. The aroma is mostly smoked malt. Flavor is a mild porter, and finishes smokey, much better as it warms up. Thin head and lacing. Color is dark with a hint of red. Overall tasty.
