3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled. Poured deep brown with a well-retained, dense beige head. The aroma picked up sweeter, smoked black malts with accents of vanilla and charred roast.. came across a little hot. The flavor found charred, smoked black malts and roasted coffee bitterness, with peppery alcohol and mild-moderate astringency around.. finished sharp, bitter, and boozy. Medium-bodied with very high roast on the palate.. decent feel, but not the easiest or most enjoyable drinker.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark leathery brown. Slight smoke aroma followed by some woody oak. Dry on the palate with some s smokey roasted malt and some coffee notes. Overall, a fairly decent brew, good tasting with restrained smoke notes unlike some smoked beers that can be overpowering.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Fairly modest dark brown pour, with minimal carbonation and a weak look to it. Nose of mild smoke, dark chocolate, and tart fruit, maybe rotting prunes. Uh oh. Body is thin, with perhaps even a touch of acidity. Taste of meat, carbon, and mild infection.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A medium-roast coffee color and pours with a nominal head. The smell is slightly sweet and subdued, and the flavor is rich, smokey, and slightly bitter in the finish. Nonetheless, compared to my usual stuff, itís a little understated. Thatís probably a good thing, and I wish Iíd had the ability to appreciate it better. Itís not bad, but it isnít for me.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark brown...almost black with large tan head. Coffee, cocoa & smoke on the nose. Taste - mild roasted malts, a bit of coffee and cocoa. The smoke flavor is definitely there, but not overpowering like a rauchbier. Itís not as thick as it looks which I like because it adds to its drinkability; medium body. I really enjoyed this one.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pour out of 12 oz bottle is dark reddish brown with thin white head, not looking like a porter. Aroma has some grain, caramel, toffee, touch of smoke but really searching, some slight grass, nutty notes, hints of spice. Taste is similar, some slight grain, biscuit and yeast notes going into some caramel, toffee, slight nuts, earthy spice, and a ever so slight smoke note, finishing fairly sweet.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 11, 2012 2011 bottle when brewed at Rahrís. Brown with a head that quickly disappears. Lots of toffee, coffee, dark chocolate. Quite roasty in both the aroma and taste. Not bad.
