Licorice character. Hints of smoke but not dominating. Was expecting a fuller flavour. A bit acidic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark brown with minimal tan head. Roasty mocha aroma with a strong dose of smokiness. Rich chocolate malt flavor with just the right amount of smoke. Could have used a bit more carbonation, but it’s a minor point. I’m typically not a fan of smoky brews, but I found this one pleasing.

Bottle; Color: Poured dark brown with an off white head. Aroma: Chocolate/Rich. Flavor: I was expecting a chocolate flavor, however all I tasted was smoke. Strong and intense flavor overpowered by smoke taste, if this was 1/3 less smoke, it might have let those additional chocolate malt flavors shine.

Bottle. Better Beer Of The Month Club. Dark brown to black-colored with a beige to light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, a bit of coffee, roastiness and mild smokiness. Bitterish roasty flavor with a bit of sweetness, some chocolate, a bit of coffee, malt and a bitter finish with some smokiness, a bit ashy. Medium-bodied. Pretty good.

Better Beer Of The Month Club. Pours like coke with a huge beige head, aroma of coffee, cocoa an waffel, flavor is slightly smoked, with wood, light notes of sausage, finishes with cocoa and wood acidity, medium bodied, nice

There is a strong cola bouquet with this porter, it’s more towards the birch beer spectrum. There is plenty of meatiness in the nose as well. The initial flavor is sweet, but there is plenty of bitterness on the sides and in the finish. The palate is solid, but there is some unexpected fizziness. Otherwise it looks and plays the part of a smoked porter very successfully.

12oz bottle poured into a tumbler glass. Clear dark brown with a small tan head. Coffee aroma, with burned wood, dark chocolate and earthy hops. Roasted malts, some carob and espresso flavors. Med-full body, creamy, dry, balanced and satisfying.

Definite smoked taste, no sharpness like other 8%’s. A beer to savour not smash down.

Smokey, smooth, rich, coffee, mocha, does not taste like a 8 percent. Great pair with specie food.

My Bottom Line:
Vanilla, black licorice and wooden smoke lead to roasted malt bitterness in this personable Imperial Smoked Porter.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the clear dark brown.
-This doesn’t taste like 8% at all.
-The mouthfeel is on the lean side for this type of brew.
-Smoke mostly appears in the finish and aftertaste.
-A subtle fruitiness is reminiscent of black cherries.

Bottle.

Bottle from Total Wine in Claymont. Pours cola style with a small tan head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is more smoked than porter with a big campfire scent followed by light coffee. The taste has a nice coffee flavor, some chocolate, and then a nice hickory smoke on top.. the smoke lasts a bit longer in duration than the other flavors. I approve this guy.
