Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and dark fruit. I'm not picking up any smoky aromas beyond the roasted malt.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber poured into English pint: Chocolate brown color with about a half inch of light beige, quickly diminishing foam that leaves light lace; aromas of smoke, some soy sauce, some booze, coffee, caramel; taste has a bit of dark chocolate bitterness, caramel sweetness and a touch of lactose, mid level acidity; itís not a thick as the abv would lead to believe, but it is a bit syrupy; the finish lingers with a bit of roastyness. Itís not as big and heavy as it seems like it should be, but thatís kind of nice.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz. bottle from shrubber85- thanks again, Roger! Iíve seen a few of these at The Party Source but never get them because the name and labels are so unappealing. Pours a brownish mahogany color with a small off-white head. Notes of chocolate, very light smoke, brown sugar, tobacco, peat, tea, toast, and earth. Light-medium bodied, with a dry, earthy mouthfeel and low carbonation. The aroma works well but the flavor falls a bit flat.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle -
A nice beer, and compared to the regular beers that are brewed by Hermitage, this is a step up from their regular pedestrian brewing results. The aroma has some moderate sweetness, bakers chocolate, and a light bacon-y/smoked deli meat/burned paper thing going. The sweetness really melds well with the malts and the smokey notes really carry thru during the different temperature changes. Not super complex, but quite enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
"This 8% brews aroma is dominated by roster malts, mocha, and smoke. The smoke is even more subtle in the flavor. Flavor is roasted malts and mocha, hops & dark fruit. Robust yet dry in the finish, which shows a tiny bit of the smoke. Brewed by ass kisser ales AT Hermitage. I canít believe Hermitage actually conceived and brewed this as its sooo much better than nything Iíve had from them."

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a 12OZ bottle into a pint glass.
An OK 8% abv.beer. The beer is dark (almost black) when poured. Has a tan head and emits a faint aroma of smoke. I just started appreciating Porters so this beer may need to be re-visited in the future.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
650 ml. Iíve consistently ignored this one on the shelf for nearly a year because I thought it was an alias of the same breweryís similarly labeled Stubborn Jack, and because most of their non-smoked stuff has been unimpressive. Pours nearly opaque chocolate with a lasting disc of foam. Just a hint of smoke on the nose mixed with espresso, cocoa and caramel. Taste is caramel cola, dark toasted bread, and a small but increasingly noticeable flavor of smoke. Medium body is smooth with a low level of carbonation and tends to the sweet side, but the smoke rescues it from cloying. A fine example of how a bit of smoked malt can make an underlying mediocre beer interesting.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
From a 355ml bottle on 20/7/2014. Pours a very dark brown with a small head. Has a strong and quite pleasant smoky aroma, but with less bacon than you often get with smoked brews. The smoke is relatively subtle in the mouth but compliments sweet chocolate, a touch of dark fruit and spice, and a nice roasty lingering bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. This is a really impressive, cohesive brew and definitely one of the best smoked beers Iíve had. Lovely stuff.
