The smoked presence of this beer was more in the nose than the mouth. A good porter offering from this brewery and above average. The palate was average with not much thickness. Roasted malts were present but not overpowering. The 8% abv was hidden well. Not overly complex but a good go-to beer if you are wanting a porter.

Aroma is a mix of caramel/toffee malts and smoked malts. The flavor is smoked malts, mild nuttiness, dark fruit and an acidity in the finish.

Pours a nearly black, but clear dark brown with a 1 finger, creamy tan head. Aroma is roast, roasted nuts, chocolate, peat smoke, herbal hops. Aroma is nice, but lead me to believe it might be a bit overly peat infused, taste-wise. Flavor is roast nuts, coffee, light roast, some light char, burnt sugar, old cocoa, peat smoke, sweet malt and some planty hops. Palate is medium bodied and slightly syrupy throughout with a fairly light, but sharp carbonation. I was happy with the amount of peat smoke in the flavor, it’s really easy to overdo it, and they didn’t here. There is enough to make a presence, but not enough to blow away every other flavor. It lacks a bit of malt backbone, though. It may have many flavor attributes that point to a good porter (and it really isn’t bad), but they seem hollow, barely there for a second then gone. Replaced with light smokiness and sweet malt. Still, not a bad beer, but it seems almost soda-like.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Habershams Liquors. It pours dark brown with a thin tan head. The nose is lighter than I was expecting with notes of smoked ham, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is a little on the weak side with some smoked meat, a little dry cocoa powder, and coffee. Light to medium body with average carbonation and a medium, slightly bitter finish. This one didn’t blow me away, but it was certainly drinkable. Nothing to seek out though.

A very well done smoked porter. The smoke is subtle and compliments the porter itself quite well, particularly in the nose.

Opaque brown. Beige head. Chocolate roast, burned toast, lactose sweetness aroma. Flavor is bitter, roasty, cocoa and a very faint metallic note. Good porter.

12 oz. bottle. Per the label, 8% ABV, brewed and bottled by Ass Kicker Beverage Co. San Jose, CA. Pours a medium, lasting, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear, light brown (SRM 20) body...nose is hints of smoke, toffee/caramel, hints of coffee....taste is light smoke, toffee/caramel, finishing with a light coffee dominated bitterness....mouth feel light of medium, carbonation makes a tingly spritz. This is a light Porter. It is not particularly complex in either aroma or taste, and the mouth feel is almost to a Lager in its lightness. The malt back bone is the major flaw in its simplicity.
