4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2010-06-28. Black body, small brown head and lace. 4+ Flavour is nice, rich dark malt, with moderate bitterness and light roast character. Alcohol is pretty light, finish is nice, just a hint of fruit with a rich malt character, something I can not pinpoint, comes together nicely. 7+ Rich dark malt aroma, light roast and alcohol, "imperial stout" smell. 7+ Smooth full bodied palate is lightly carbonated. 4+ Very simple but very enjoyable stout. I think I probably like it in part for the reasons other people might find it a bit tame. Yumm! On tap at Wet Dog Cafe, Astoria

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub. Deep mahogany, low off-white head. Aroma of burnt malt, hints of chocolate and coffee. Palate delivers the same. I found this to be quite subdued, but it may be because I preceded it with the phenomenal espresso stout. Not bad, just lackluster by comparison.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[3013-20100628] Tap. Sweet whiskey vanilla bean malt aroma has a mild oakwood and roasty sweetness. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy tan head. Roast caramel crust malt flavour has a long sweet candy taffy aftertaste. Full body is thick. Good balance, drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Nitro) A very nice oatmeal presence, somewhat peaty and medicinal, with rich smokiness, strong roasty flavor with a bit of a burning alcohol presence in the finish.

Portland trip. Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark black color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was faint sweet coffee. The flavor was sweet and bitter coffee and roasty malts. Not a whole lot else going on but pleasant. long bitter roasty finish. Medium body. Solid.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at the brewpub. Opaque black color with some dark brown around the edges. Medium off-white head that dissipates steadily, and stringy lacing. Roasted coffee in the nose along with some chocolate malt . Medium to full body with a roasted malt and coffee character, plus some hoppy and chocolatey notes. The finish is smooth and malty with a short coffee aftertaste. Would not have pegged this as an Imperial Stout, but as a normal one it’s okay.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Surprised to see this ranked as an imperial stout and would be curious to know the alcohol content as this seemed a very easy-going, though quite enjoyable, stout. Dark chocolate body topped with an apropos milk chocolate head. Roast barley and chocolate tendrils tickle the nose and bait you for the first taste. Well-balanced roast barley and chocolate pair to massage the palate. Chocolate coffee grains leave a lasting imprint. A solid stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampler tray at brewpub. Poured a deep brown with a hefty tan head. Aroma was oats, chocolate, light coffee and caramel malt. Flavor was a little muddled between oatmeal, chocolate and caramel and the mouth was flatter than I would have liked. Also very little alcohol for an Imperial Stout. Still, it was decent enough I suppose.
