Bierkrug (1919) - Idar-Oberstein (In Iraq), Rhineland-Palatinate, - JAN 7, 2011
330 ml bottle in Germany thanks to Steptin. Pours an orange color with a thin white head. The aroma is musty sweet malt, and the flavor is malty cardboard with a strong dryness from the hops, combined with light notes of metal, leading to a hoppy bitter end. There are much better beers out there.

Can as Astra Premium Bier (US). It’s pretty much what you would expect from an inexpensive pilsner. Earthy. Meh.

330ml bottle. Clear golden colour with small to average, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, white head. Expressionless grainy aroma. Taste is grainy and slightly soapy, bitter hoppy.

Picked up a bottle at the local supermarket. Pours a slightly darker than normal yellow and has lazy carbonation with little head. Aroma is rather nonexistent and not typical to a German pilsener where hops are usually present. Taste is interesting...I found Hamburg beers to be rather bitter but this one is quite malty. Nutty flavor with a touch of a chemical/resin background. Not my favorite beer but a nice alternative to the bitter beers of Germany if you’re missing malt and don’t want a darker, heavier beer.

330 ml stubby bottle, bought in Germany. Poured into a footed pilsner glass at home.ABV 4.9% Pale yellow golden colour, with a snow white head on top, soapy, two fingers tall. very good retention and a nice stream of bubbles rising to the surface. Light lacing from the foam left around the glass. Aroma is of malts mostly, I can’t seem to find any hops aroma. Taste is neutral at first, with just some bready malts, turns bitter and alighty metallic on the aftertaste. Quite dry on the palate. Medium thin on the body, good carbonation. Overall, a good beer, it could use some more aroma though.

25.01.2013. 0,33l Bottle. REWE, Flensburg. Golden colour with white head. Bitter malty aroma. Sharp crisp hops. Rarther thin body. There is a little to much carbonation that gives this stinging mouthfeel. Short dry bitter aftertaste.
