3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Slacks (615) - Bolton, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 7, 2007
Bottle: Wow, lots of low reviews. Pours pumpkin coloured, good sized white foamy head. Mine appeared flat as the farmer’s daughter, not streaming with bubbles like some of these folks below me. Aroma is sweet and grassy, an odd combination, and now I really have no idea what I’m in to. The good - it’s light, great mouthfeel, almost creamy in texture, very easy to drink. The bad - it’s very, very sweet. Syrupy sweet. You can definitely pull the grape flavour out, I noticed a bit of raisin and hints of orange to my palate. I liked it better than I expected, hence the higher rating I suppose.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 french tickler (642) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 4, 2007
Clear golden poor with lots of effervescence and a thin foamy beige head. Aromas of cask, caramelised malts, the sweetness from the pineau des charentes and a slight twist of ginger. Way to sweet, very syrupy... almost artificial... 99% sweet, 1% other... serious lack of balance in this beer. Very soggy tasting and fad.

nice gold color, huge long lasting head. not much in the aroma, i’m detecting slight grassy notes. flavour is quite sweet, and piney. not bad but not great.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Sammy (5888) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 28, 2007
I had meant to pass this one up as I am not into fruity beers, etc. Sugar sizzles out of the body and gives it a good initial head. Not much colour in body. Taste is sugary fruit punch. A couple of sips and I fed the drain.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 JohnBarleycorn (537) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 28, 2007
Gold beverage. Nose shows the sweet Pineau des Charentes wine character, but in a balanced and disciplined measure. Unfortunately, this restraint doesn’t show through in taste. The flavour is unnaturally sweet and syrupy, and generally straddles the line between a good and bad experience. A novelty that doesn’t work in the real world.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 shintriad (700) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 26, 2007
So like...I’ve had cognac before. Is it supposed to be this sweet? Very fizzy and sugary with surprising notes of alcohol in the finish. Very juice-like with apple flavours. Unpleasant grapeskin finish. Blaahh.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 probstk (1911) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - APR 25, 2007
Bottel from the LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. AP24/07.
App.: Slightly pinkish golden, large foamy head, clear.
Aroma: Metallic, sweet grain/cereal, mild floral hops, grapes and apples, vinous and alcoholic.
Palate: Medium body, slightly syrupy and moderately carbonated.
Flav.: Biscuits, bread, light fruitiness; too sweet, sort of strange alcoholic wine finish.
How do you dispose of crappy beer and excess Pineau des Charentes?? Mix them and sell their bastard offspring to gullible Canucks.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tupalev (2708) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - APR 25, 2007
Bottle. Standard dark yellow, but white bubbly head and lots of streaming bubbles. Aroma is slightly sweet, slightly grassy, not really much there. Surprisingly thick frothy body, the best thing about this beer - this part was really nice. Taste - um, let’s see - I’m not familiar at all with Pineau des Charentes, so that’s no help. But what is here is a standard light ale and one great big pile of sugar. Served slightly chilled out of my wine chiller, it actually wasn’t the alcho-pop/beer I thought it would be. It is simply a serviceable ale that is artificially sweetened tot he extreme. Not near as bad as expected, but 0 reason to buy again.
