Commercial Description:
A light fruit ale, made with Maine wild blueberries. As opposed to many of the sweeter fruit beers on the market, our addition of fresh Maine wild blueberries in this light ale yields a subtle blueberry aroma, without the sweet aftertaste. A mixture of the following Mutton malts, pale, crystal, and Munich, are combined with wheat to give this ale its lighter body, and we only use minimal amounts of Target and Willamette hops.

From a 12 oz bottle with an unmarked "best before" bar on the label. Poured a lot darker than I’d expected and highly sedimented. There’s a big solid-foamy top. The aroma is just like that blueberry syrup that I liked when I was a kid. There’s a bit of the berry in this, but in a very chained-up way ... over the top of it is an almost florally hoppy beer, this is an odd and interesting blend of beers. I love blueberries. I love beer (duh). But I’ve never been a fan of blueberry beers. But this gets away with it a little bit better by not flaunting the beers in an over-the-top way. Decent. (#2735, 3/5/2007)

Bottle. Pours a relatively clear amber color with a smallish white head. I was expecting much more blueberry in the aroma, but I did not get it - it was there, but very muted. Flavor was much the same - hints of blueberry/fruit, some malt and a little yeast. Not bad, but rather non-descipt.

Clear ruby amber body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweet blueberry aroma. Sweet blueberry flavor with a grainy malty background.

This is a very nice fruit beer. Some of these types of beer go too far with the fruit and overpower the beer itself. Pours a fairly dark amber with a decent head. Nice aroma with a bit of blueberry. The taste is very good. Only a hint of blueberry and very easy to drink.

Bottle. Sweet blueberry nose, orange-amber body with an off-white head. Blueberries for a nice base here, and not a cloying distraction. Crisp taste, dry with light stale caramel, malty with a touch of oiliness coming out with a bit of earthy hops. Medium body with a dry aftertaste. Not at all bad.

12 oz bottle. Orange amber with a fair white head. Caramel, blueberry and a touch of mustiness. Just a touch. The berries actually smell pretty fresh. Fairly lively mouthfeel. Lightly sweet blueberry flavor, lightly toasty malt and a slightly nutty earthy bitterness. Blueberry flavor fades quickly in the finish, as the nutty bitter shines through. I liked this quite a bit - pleasantly suprised!

Bottle from Total Wine. Somehow I had this one last week and totally forgot to rate it. This is one of the "new" additions at the local beer store. When you think of Blueberry beers, you think of Sea Dog, not this one. This one was marginal at best and was very faint. I’m not sure if my beer was skunky or not.

Bottle - from sampler pack. Quite good. Decent blueberry flavor. Not much beer flavor.
