Blueberry apparent right away, though it is not completely dominating like other fruit beers. Behind it come caramel and gentle citrusy hops. Pours an almost clear copper with a lasting white foam. Flavour is full of blueberry which yields to pleasant caramel and delicate bitterness that hangs on just a little too long. This is beer with blueberry and not blueberry "alcopop". Light to medium body with a fair amount of carbonation. Pretty good stuff. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Nov 24, 2006 12 oz bottle. Crystal clear copper color (cccc) with weak off white head. Aroma of faint malts, blueberry and tartness. First taste is sweet blueberry then sweet caramel malts then berry tartness and subtle hop hints. The flavors are well balanced with malts and berries. There is an even berry aftertaste that isn’t too tart or too sweet. Hollywoodt (174), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Nov 4, 2006 Poured to an amber color with minimal white head. Aroma was of malt, with just a slight hint of blueberries. There wasn’t much in the way of blueberry in the taste. What was there tasted like a flavoring. I ended up pouring the last bit down the drain. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Oct 17, 2006 copper colored pour dense off whit head. Grains and stale blueberries soem other light sweet notes in te aroma.. pretty thin palate. Flavor is I guess a blueberry flavoring over soem grainy notes and soem water.. this stuff isn’t very good. milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Oct 8, 2006 Best of the fruit/herbal brews that I’ve tried. Blueberries in both aroma and taste, but not as sweet as other fruit beers. Rich, brown color. Part of World Market variety pack. thornecb (1736), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 23, 2006 Pours dark amber into a pint glass. Bright blueberry aromas -- hand picked -- smells great. Very slight blueberry quickly turns bitter in the lighthouse style. Very nice for a blueberry. jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Sep 13, 2006 Considering how famous Maine is for its wild blueberries, it’s no surprise that a Bar Harbor brewery would concoct a blueberry ale. I would think the temptation would be to brew an ultra-sweet fruit ale for the tourist trade. This beer is sweet alright, but not overly so. In fact, it’s very nicely balanced presenting a wonderful aroma of blueberries, caramel and toffee atop spicy hops. The pour was copper with an average white head. Medium body with average carbonation. The flavor is sweet, but yields to a moderately bitter aftertaste. Clean and crisp in the finish. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA Sep 10, 2006 Atlantic Brewing Company Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale
12 oz bottle
Recent bottling, ingurgitated 09/06
Medium pour in a pint glass
Poured a clear dark orange with almost no head, and what was there was quickly diminishing and slightly off-white.
Smelt of blueberries, with light soft spices, and a certain breadiness.
Taste was upfront light sweet blueberries and bread, with a soft bitter and acidic perfumey/spicy finish that lingers satisfyingly long.
Overall, a great fruit beer that captures the taste of the blueberries, isn’t too cloyingly sweet, and still retains its beer taste.
