COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A light fruit ale, made with Maine wild blueberries. As opposed to many of the sweeter fruit beers on the market, our addition of fresh Maine wild blueberries in this light ale yields a subtle blueberry aroma, without the sweet aftertaste. A mixture of the following Mutton malts, pale, crystal, and Munich, are combined with wheat to give this ale its lighter body, and we only use minimal amounts of Target and Willamette hops.

Bottle. A - Crisp copper color with a slightly smaller than average sized, tight, frothy, sticky, off-white color. Decent retention with a nice, frothy lace left. S - Nice, fresh, juicy blueberry aroma. Light with sweet bread aromas. Other than that there isn’t much though. T - Similar to the nose with a light blueberry flavor. Some toasted malt and slightly sweet bready flavor. The blueberry flavor isn’t quite as natural in the taste as the aroma suggested. Kind of a sweet cough syrup/alco-pop flavor. Not too sweet/artificial though. A bit like an blueberry muffin cereal. M - Lighter body with about average carbonation. A light, spritzy feel. D - Not overly sweet or artificial blueberry flavor but it gets a little too sweet to have more than 1 or 2. Decent dessert beer though. Notes: Not a bad fruit beer, but not a great one. It falls in the middle somewhere where the nose is nice fresh blueberries, but the taste is a bit more artificial. It gets to be a little light on flavors as you drink and it fails to keep me interesting. Probably a good dessert beer or if you want to provide a fruity flavor (I paired it with breakfast for dinner). Worth a try, but don’t expect to be blown away.

The beer was a gusher still onto my desk as I opened it. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass. The color is a hazy dark orange/red with two fingers of light brownish head and a little lacing left on the glass. The smell is blueberry right at the first whiff of the aroma. Some creamy malt flavor a sweetness that reminds me of jello. The taste is not heavy with blueberries as I have anticipated. The is a mild blueberry flavor that is mixed in with a sweet malt flavor and a little yeast in the back. The feel of this beer is light to medium and goes down really well. It is pretty refreshing and I would have it again if I were to come across it.

Hazy orange with little carbonation. Blueberry aroma. The taste is a hint of blueberry with a little tart finish. Very refreshing.

It pours amber brown and smells with hints of blueberry notes. It’s got a nice, light carbonation. It’s a sweet, light ale with a lingering blueberry aftertaste that is subtle and nice. It’s probably the perfect summer beer.

Appearance: medium brown. Aroma: strong blueberry and hint of other fruitin there, too. Taste: tart, dry, clean, slightly sweet and with light blueberry notes; blueberry flavor is much lighter and drier than the aroma would suggest. Finish: long, tart, slightly hoppy with residual subtle fruit. Notes: the way that the flavor is much lighter on the blueberries than the aroma would suggest is actually a positive. The contrast between the very rich blueberry scent and the more complex, light flavor makes this very drinkable.

Nicely down. Everything is very subtle from the aroma to the taste. A hint of blueberries everywhere but nothing to overpower you. Very refreshing. Second only to Blue Points Blueberry Ale for this style.

Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale is a very clear deep amber ale with a blue tinge to it. It has a thin, off white head that fades and leaves very nice, solid lacing on the glass. It has a toasty aroma with a blueberry note. It’s pretty light bodied; very smooth and crisp. The flavor is a nice, semi-sweet malt that’s toasty with some juniper bitterness and blueberry at the finish. I love it. It’s reasonably complex enough to keep my interest. It’s all there to solidly support the blueberry. I love blueberries.

Nice, extremely strong blueberry aroma that I’d love to sit in all day every day. If only the taste was as strong, it instead has a weak wheat note and very minimal blueberry sweetness that was something of a letdown. I’m not entirely surprised; fruit rarely translates into the beers as well as I’d like, but their blueberry soda was quite good and I hoped this beer might do a decent New Glarus impression. Sadly not the case.

Copper pour reddish hue off white creamy head which i like with a fruit beer .... lots of lacing aroma of sweet malts and blueberry .... taste of wheat, sweet malts and blueberries ... not as sweet and tart as most fruit beers but you get a solid taste of blueberries with a very light hop bitterness at the end ... a nice mellow ale
