Commercial Description:
A light fruit ale, made with Maine wild blueberries. As opposed to many of the sweeter fruit beers on the market, our addition of fresh Maine wild blueberries in this light ale yields a subtle blueberry aroma, without the sweet aftertaste. A mixture of the following Mutton malts, pale, crystal, and Munich, are combined with wheat to give this ale its lighter body, and we only use minimal amounts of Target and Willamette hops.

Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale, is the Atlantic Brewing Company’s most popular product, and it is a beer you could not have found outside of Maine until recently. ABC has expanded into other East Coast markets and their beers are welcome to anyone who loves great craft beer. The Blueberry Ale has a big following in Maine, and can be found both on draught, and in bottles, in a number of supermarkets, beer stores, beer bars, and restaurants. It is a tradition of mine to make the very first pint of beer I drink, at one of my favorite beer bars called The Great Lost Bear, a pint of Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale. It is a ritual I have performed for the last 14 years, and every time I drink this beer, it is like the first. I fell in love with this beer at first sip. Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale pours to a beautiful, bright, deep amber color, with a thick white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is wonderful, and invites you in to take a sip. Sweet, and fragrant aromas of wild blueberries, marry with aromas of sweet malt, and slight citric hop aroma. The palate is firm, with lots of good biscuit, pale, tart wheat malt, and sweet malt flavors. This is coupled with a nice back drop of sweet/slightly sour fresh blueberry flavors. Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale finishes with some good malt flavors up front, then ends with a sweet and sour blueberry finish that slightly lingers. This is a fantastic beer that showcases wild Maine blueberry flavors and aromas from start to finish. It is delicious, and refreshing. Blueberry is the star in this beer, but this beer also has some great malt character as well. And this is the true beauty of this beer. It is not at all cloying, or too sweet and fruity. You know you are drinking a beer, not a sweet blueberry soda, a mistake some brewpubs/breweries make when doing a blueberry ale. The experience is akin to chewing on fresh wild Maine blueberries while drinking a very well done pale ale. The use of blueberry, malt, and hops in this beer is sublime, each play off each other, and are in perfect harmony. Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale is without a doubt the most impressive Blueberry Ale I have ever tasted. This beer is a natural with desert, and would go well with a nice big slice of warm wild Maine blueberry pie with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

From start to finsih, this is a world class beer. I have rated many more than 26 beers, but I have only made time to rate 26 online. In other words, I know more about beer than it may appear. TRY THIS ONE!! It has a a pale amber color with a lasting, yet thin, off-white head. The aroma is not blueberry syrup like some other beer of this stle, but of fresh fruit, blended beautifully with some caramel, and slight hop spice notes. Flavor is great. No syrupy sugar sweetness from some other poor quality fruit beers. This is of fresh blueberries again blended with a caramelly, slightly roasted malt/nutty note. Feels a bit light but is smooth yet not flat on the tongue. The finish is of hop bitterness and fresh blueberries NOT BLUEBERRY SYRUP. Another great blueberry beer is at Gilded Otter Brewpub in New Paltz, NY, but only seasonal on tap. This one is bottled. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very tasteful beer not as good as the Sea Dog Blue Paw, standard for blueberry ale. My out take on Bar Harbor BLueberry ale is its high buget movie. I paid to much to see it. and it wasn’t worth teh money.

Redish pink like cherries on snow nail polish. Mmmmm...smells like blueberry juice. Yummy! I like these fruity beers.

Big Foamy Head that dissapates quite rapididly. Very nice dark amber color. Aroma is great, not overpowering blueberry smell, but you can still pick up the hints. Nice aftertaste of blueberries, but not overpowering or too sweet. A quite enjoyable beer.

Strong blueberry aroma. Blueberry flavor is evident in the beer, but doesn’t overwhelm it, a good fruit/beer balance. My favorite fruit beer.

From old notes. Bottle, May 2005. Granted, I was on my honeymoon, so everything tasted great. Brought a bottle back from Maine to savor later, and had the same experience again, so it must have been quality. Marked as the best blueberry ale I’ve had. Not too over-the-top fruity, not too sweet. Very well balanced, with a wheaty twist.
