COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A light fruit ale, made with Maine wild blueberries. As opposed to many of the sweeter fruit beers on the market, our addition of fresh Maine wild blueberries in this light ale yields a subtle blueberry aroma, without the sweet aftertaste. A mixture of the following Mutton malts, pale, crystal, and Munich, are combined with wheat to give this ale its lighter body, and we only use minimal amounts of Target and Willamette hops.

For a fruit flavored ale, I was very disapppointed, The blueberry aroma is definitely there, but the blueberry taste, tastes of crappy kids cereal. The mouthfeel of this beer wasn’t right in my opinion either.

18.06.2013, tap @ Whole Foods Market NY: Small shortlasting head. Aroma is fruity, artificial dark berries, hay, caramel, sugar, grass, cardboard. Taste is dry, artificial dark berries, hay, harsh grass, berry skin, wood. Medium bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Why do they even make this crap?!

Initially, blueberry aroma is quite present, but it quickly goes away leaving mostly malt on the nose. Color is mostly amber with a hint of red from the blueberry. Fairly minimal head and light lacing. Medium malt taste with very little fruit. There is a bit of tartness at the finish near the back of the tongue. Overall this beer is refreshing, especially on this warm evening, but if you are going to make a fruit beer, the fruit should be more apparent.

Copper pour with a thin white head that doesn’t leave much lacing. The aroma is dominated by the blueberries but not over the top. The flavor has the blueberries throughout but they are subtle and nothing else is really gong on with this beer. It’s a slightly odd which doesn’t make it all that drinkable. Not really my style!

12oz Bottle. Appearance is amber color with medium, off-white head. Aroma is subdued with fruit, blueberries, and wheat. Taste is similar with blueberries right up front with nice beer malts backing it up with flavors of orange and wheat. Palate is medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation, and a mod finish.

This is one of the few blueberry beers out there that sort of tastes like beer. Even the color looks the part. A deep amber color with very little to no head. The smell is nearly exact to the taste. Strong fruity and blueberry aromas let you know exactly what you are getting into. With most fruity or hybrid beers, the distinctive taste seems to always be towards the end. Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale though skips all the foreplay and jumps right at you with the blueberry flavor with a subtle aftertaste of a mild ale.

22oz bomber bottle, purchased from Liquor Locker, Southwest Harbor (I think), consumed in April 2010. Amber colour. Relatively restrained blueberry aroma. Also quite subtle on the palate. Dry and fairly tart. Not one of those synthetic, sweet, fruit bombs that fruit beers can be. All the better for that.
