1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
330ml bottle from a Torguay supermarket. Thin and slightly acidic. This is called a "Dark Ale" rather than a stout, and I can see where the brewer is coming from. Yes there are chocolate notes and a background burnt barley flavour, but Iíve had dark lagers which were more stouty and less lagerish than this. The poor bottle conditioning hasnít helped the cause either. Not a great experience.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of sweet coffee and chocolate. Dark brown/black color with tannish head that doesnít stay around. Sparkles on the tongue. Coffee is backed strongly by chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. Not a harsh roasted malt, but rather smooth. Decent amount of hop in the finish. Grabs the attention.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A Sim rate (bottle from Utobeer): Smells slightly metallic, but much more like a real cocoa mocha. Strong cocoa, slight espresso nose. Flavour is similar with strong stoutiness but a quick, painless finish. Appearance is dark, solid black with zero head and lacing... much as you would expect from a decent stout. Nice, drinkable beer. Perfect end to a beer-drinking evening.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (from Bitter Virtue, BB Apr 07). Very deep brown. Smoky roasted nose (chocolate and slight coffee). Roasty creamy body which doesnt sit too well with the salt and lactic tartness. A bit too sweet in the finish but ok for dessert.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smokey nose with some sweet malt and some ocean air. Pours dark ruby with a very thin but persistant head. Flavour has more of those seaside qualities balanced with the richer dark flavours of a good dark ale - a hint of chocolate, some coffee, tiny bit of licorice. Finishes long and bittersweet. Not bad at all.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle conditioned. Near opaque dark ruby brown colour with a slim and sparse tan head. Aroma of chocolate and malts. Smokey taste with some chocolate, roast malts, dark fruit and a late bitter finish. Smooth and medium to full bodied. Excellent.
