TheCheeseMan (504), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Apr 5, 2008 Courtesy mcbackus. This is a style that I am not all that familiar with. Pours a clear chestnut color. The aroma is full on honey, pears, and a touch of citric sweetness. The flavor is so sweet, with only the slightest malt notes coming through, not my favorite.
JohnQPublic (101), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 21, 2008 Draught at the brewery. Pours dark amber with no real head. Nose is honey and alcohol. Taste isn’t too complex - main components are honey sweetness, balanced by the spicy alcohol and an orangey citrus note underneath. Finish is clean, with a bit of alcohol and honey lingering lightly on the palate. Crisp carbonation paired with a lightly syrupy body. Really a very enjoyable beer - delicious, and perhaps its simplicity is an asset rather than a hindrance. (Rating #1786) jayg (997), Florida, USA Jun 20, 2008 Copper-brown pour with faint threads of white foam. Nice viscous look in the glass. Sweet grainy aroma, with a hint of alcohol and a sweet herbal perfume. Taste is fairly simple, with toasty grains and a general sweetness present. A bit hot on the finish, but not bad. Beerded_one (1551), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours brown with a ultra small white head. Aroma of honey, sweet malts, caramel, bread and alcohol. Flavor is honey sweetness with rich malts, caramel, and fruity esters with a light alcohol finish. Valley678 (6), USA does not count May 30, 2008 Very good barley wine style beer. Dark orange in the glass, it has a subtle sweetness with just a hint of hops. I thought the sweetness hid the alcohol pretty well, but it was still apparent. Overall, a very good beer.
